After reverse engineering virtually every product known to man, the Chinese have now applied the same skill to the only component of thei military that was so far missing: an aircraft carrier. Earlier today, Xinhua revealed the first official pictures of what will soon be China's first aircraft carrier, now expected to enter operation by the end of the year.

No surprise here, they have all of our military patents. Stealth fighters and now super carriers. Our Government has been committing treason in broad daylight and these are the types of things to show for it...

How does it feel to know you lost you paid for this technology to made for our Military then you lost your job so the Chinese could have it?

Finally finishing the contrsuction of the ex-Soviet Varyag is a pretty impressive feat.

but:

1/ it isn't a super carrier
2/ they didn't build the whole thing
3/ they didn't "reverse engineer" a US supercarrier to do it (they may be doign such reverse engineering...but this isn't the product of it!)

And btw most of american inventions be it at war or in the kitchen are probaly invented by european scientists or scientist from elsewhere in the world.

I'm sure a group of Eagle Scouts could have put something together with scraps from a boatyard that would be more imposing than this.

Oh well, I guess the Chinese haven't put to use all of the technology that Slick Willie made sure they got from us back when he was POTUS.

If we need to get better at using chop sticks it's because Chinese food is delicious not because they fixed up an old Soviet boat.

As has already been said in the article and above: This is posturing and has no significant tactical advantage for actual Naval capability.

The pride from the Chinese population and support their however is priceless.

I'll have to review this later as I'm at work right now. But what happened to their multi launch capability carrier? Are they still building that one? I'll research later tonight. Thanks for the pics though!!

The point is, that now China has carrier flight training facilities and will soon have operational experience with a carrier. They already have other carrier projects planned out.

And so what if it's an old Soviet carrier? Its not going to be deploying old aircraft.

From the looks of the picture, I am surprised that they chose to go with a ramp launch instead of a catapult launch. This is going to restrict them to lower performance aircraft, IE shorter ranges, less munitions etc.

They already bought an older Soviet carrier supposedly for a businesss venture (Casino) but the moment it hit Chinese territorial waters it was diverted to a military base to be researched and used as a training platform for there naval aviators.

The other designes I have seen floating around do call for a super carrier equivelant (65k-80k tons - catapult / magentic launch capabilities).

They have bought 3 ex-soviet carriers - 2 of them were old Kiev class - en.wikipedia.org... - both are now tourist attractions.

India bought a 3rd.

Having a ski ramp does not limit you to "low performance" aircraft - the Chinese J-15 appears to be a lower performance clone of the Su-33. The Su-33 can't take off at max weight with teh ski-jump, but you can bet that there's some effort going into fixing that shortcoming.

Here's my question....

How are they going to teach their pilots to land on it? TRIAL AND ERROR!?!

I don't know how many of you know what's involved in landing on an aircraft carrier, but it's no cake walk.. It's actually probably the hardest thing on earth to land on...
