What’s unsettling about the ‘Flower of Life’ (FOL) is that it can be found in all over of the world. People all over the world renown the FOL for its proportion, harmony and perfect form. Indeed, it has been termed a symbol of ‘sacred geometry,’ or thought to contain a type of an Akashic Record, to some; it depicts the fundamental forms of space and time and to others, creation itself. Some even go to the lengths to suggest that the complete ancient flower of life is an inter-dimensional tool, a portal, a stargate, a window into what some call the interspace plains.

This thread is a brief outline. Dependant on your views, it may seem like absolute BS but..remember, always have an open mind

It is composed of many evenly-space circles that overlap each other. They arrange to form a flower pattern with a sixfold symmetry. It’s been dated back to 645 BC but I bet you, since so much of our history has been lost..it’s probably waaaaay before then.

Here is the complete version with 2 more layers added:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9515409f0291.jpg[/atsimg]
It doesn’t look to be that amazing does it?

But look carefully. This simple form is very deceptive. Below depicts the platonic solids. These can all be derived from this one pattern. But hey, this is just a bunch of shapes...what’s so special about them? The platonic solids are thought to be the “templates” from which all life springs, they are found in the rudimentary construction of organic life..not just the building blocks of life...but creation itself!
The complete flower contains the 3D metatron cube which holds all Platonic solids.

Fancy Some Sightseeing?
So you all may be thinking...it’s just a shape....it means nothing, it’s all BS. Well, why all this significance in cultures and religions? As I mentioned before..the original symbol, the unifying one; FOL, can be found throughout history in a variety of places:

EGYPT
The Osirion is one of the most famous examples of where the FOL can be found. At the rear of Seti I temple at Abydos:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/67c53f6a4b35.jpg[/atsimg]
The arrow indicates where it can be exactly found. Here’s a close up:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/ca939a488b84.jpg[/atsimg]
And a further close-up:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9ec25863d698.jpg[/atsimg]
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/d3b9f0250e18.jpg[/atsimg]
The following letters can be made out:
θ = Theta
Є = Epsilon
λ = Lamda
Closer inspection shows that the two Greeks words that can be deciphered read: "Theos Nilos", which means the "God of the Nile."

"Digamma is an archaic letter of the Greek alphabet, used primarily as a Greek numeral.
Its original name is unknown, but was probably (wau). It was later called διγαμμα (digamma — double gamma because of its shape). It is attested in archaic and dialectal ancient Greek inscriptions, and is occasionally used as a symbol in later Greek mathematical texts.
It is also used as the Greek numeral 6. In ancient usage, the numeral had the same form as the letter digamma."
Digamma, like Upsilon, derives from the Phoenician letter Waw, and in its turn gave rise to the Roman letter F."

It is clear from the above that the inscription is ancient Greek. I believed first that this occued during Alexander's invasion in 332 BC, before the beginning of the Roman period in 30BC, when the Greek Ptolemies ruled Egypt. Against this view according to Herbert Weir Smyth in his book Greek Grammar the Digamma "disappeared when Athens adopted the Ionic alphabet in 403 bc. However it disappeared gradually and was still used in Boetia as late as 200 bc." This implies that it could already have vanished by Alexander's time.
So if the letter truly is "Digamma" it is quite possible that it was inscribed before the Ptolemaic period. On the present evidence this seems to be very unlikely but if so what other possibility might there be? We can be fairly sure that Pythagoras had a ten year stay in Egypt from around 535bc. Could it have been inscribed by him?

The Alphabet
And talking about letters, I came across something odd: [atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/f23f06420ab2.jpg[/atsimg]
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/72974a995eab.jpg[/atsimg]
As you can see these are some runes; some ancient alphabets and these can all be seen in this one mere pattern.
And below are some more, that I’ll leave to your imagination:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/2d99cc827759.jpg[/atsimg]
INDIA
Believe it or not, it can also be found in another grand civilisation...in India. It’s mainly been found on temples; both Hindu and Buddhist.
"At the entrance of the Baghawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba ashram there is a gate that covers and protects Ganesh's temple, and the whole gate's design is made of the Flower of Life symbol! Unfortunately, photography is not allowed."[/]-- By Juan Carlos Toffano, FOL Graduate (Mexico).

CROP CIRCLES
I’m sure all of you have seen crop circles like below. Again, they all seem to have similar patterns to the FOL, if not from it.

And here:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/34bcd812a3bd.jpg[/atsimg]

These are all just a MINUTE amount of places these have been found in (to see some more: www.floweroflife.org...) and there so so so much more!

A Few Derivations:
Not only can the Platonic Solids be derived from this but so can these:

The Fruit of Life
The Fruit of Life is thought to be the “blueprint” of the universe. It’s thought to be the basis for the design of the atom, structure, life and everything in existence.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/57a6d40963c3.jpg[/atsimg]

The Seed of Life: Creation
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/51a7459f5e9b.png[/atsimg]

This symbolises the seven days of creation, and all appear to derive from an octahedron.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/0d21285a5aec.jpg[/atsimg]

This pattern is a geometrical formula which represents the electromagnetic spectrum of light (for further information how this can be done, check out Drunvalo Melchizedek's book "The Ancient Secret of The Flower of Life Vol.2") and the first thing that God created was light - "Let there be light".

The Egg of Life
The shape of the Egg of Life is said to be the shape of a multi-cellular embryo in its first hours of creation.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/581393d6a7c3.gif[/atsimg]

The fact that this one shape can hold so much is startling! Again, the Egg and Seed are possibilities. If you want to have an idea of what else it symbolises...Wikipedia is a great start: en.wikipedia.org...

A Bit of Physics
It is a UNIFICATION into one thing. You know what else reminds me of unification?
The superstring theory; that all particles, everything we’re made off are actually strings. Just like how all platonic solids are actually a version of the FOL, strings act in the same way but for all matter, antimatter.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/968fa5514972.jpg[/atsimg]
This looks quite similar to the FOL. It’s a Calabi-Yau...a manifold in which strings pass through and it determines what way it vibrates, therefore what characteristics it is...what particle it will become.

Imagine the orbits of Venus and Earth...over the time to complete 8 orbits by Earth, 13 orbits for Venus:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/a5470e0067cc.gif[/atsimg]
(orbit of Earth is cropped out)

Again, this can be seen from the FOL.

A Little Bit of Religion
The complete flower also contains the Kabbalah’s Tree of Life.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/d5431268cff4.gif[/atsimg]

Christianity also has a strong link with it. Below depicts the Star of David:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/92ade798e073.gif[/atsimg]

You’ve got the Tripod of Life; symbolising the mind, body and spirit.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/33b7e7a07636.png[/atsimg]
Also, you've got the Vesica Piscis and the Spherical Octahedron.

This was just something fascinating I came across on the Internet and decided to share it with you guys. It’s rather unsettling how this one symbol is spread out all over the world...why did so many cultures and religions adopt this in their work? Why did so many intelligent men? This little drawing has had a large influence...and I don’t think we’ve been given all to the story here.
So what do you think? Is it a “portal”? Is it a secret symbol that holds the most important and sacred pattern in the universe?
Or is it just meaningless?

Very good thread... and there are many more crop circles that illustrate sacred geometry as well.

Now, one has to ask...

Who originally came up with the flower of life and was first to illustrate it with sacred geometry?

I have drawn this pattern a multitude of times when I was a child in school day dreaming. I remember one day my teacher stopped her lesson and asked me why I was drawing that symbol.

And I replied that it wasn't a symbol it is the secret of life. I had no idea why I said it and from where it came.

Of course the whole class laughed at me and I was reprimanded for being a smart ass.... But it turns out I was right...

I had never heard of the FOL before. Such and amazing thing that everything fits in there.
Everything! I'm definitely going to have to research this more. Thanks for the nudge in this direction.
Great thread. S+F

Yes, the Flower Of life is very intriguing. While the name might not bring up the best feelings from some, Drunvalo Melchizedek has more knowledge about this subject than just about anyone. So, if interested, read The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life Vol. 1 & 2 by him. While he may or may not have an agenda behind his work, there is no doubt that his information in and of itself is probably more important than 50% of what's in a high school history book (also look into it and the Fibonacci sequence.) Great subject that needs to be talked about more often, this is an area of expertise so if anyone needs info I've owned and read those books for years. Great way of breaking it down simply for all as an intro though OP, as it only gets weirder and more complicated from there.

Fantastic angle on this, I like all of the pictures from the different cultures. Here is a link to a thread I authored a while back on a slightly different angle. The alpha and omega, both shapes that can be found within the FOL, are present in almost every cultures names for God. We even used some of the same graphics but didn't overlap on each others presentations. I quite enjoyed your OP. S&F

Drunvalo Melchizedek is a mere high school student of sacred geometry. This guy is the tenured professor:

smphillips.8m.com...

The Flower of Life contains what is known in mathematics as "Metatron's Cube". It is known to have the geometrical potential to construct all five Platonic solids. But that is only the beginning. What secrets of the universe do THEY contain? That's what you will discover at the above website. And much more. It will blow your mind away. However, you will need to spend some time assimilating the research there. If you stick at it, you will encounter some of the most amazing revelations about the nature of reality, matter (superstrings), the human skeleton and DNA to be found on the internet. And it is ALL mathematically rigorous - no ad hoc models or speculations, no gaps in logic - so the research posted there cannot be refuted. The existence of a universal blueprint governing holistic systems is demonstrated that is equivalent to the sacred geometries of the Tree of Life, the Sri Yantra, the five Platonic solids and the disdyakis triacontahedron. This pattern manifests in music in the form of the seven musical scales that are the basis of the authentic and plagal modes of Church plainsong.

If any of you want to move beyond metaphor and pseudo-science to the real thing in sacred geometry, check out this website.

Excellent post, BP
Very well put together.

I'm not sure it truly falls into this category, but the FOL pattern reminds me considerably of fractal geometry. There are a great many fractal patterns observable in nature, which makes me wonder if this Flower of Life did not come to us from nature as well. Fractal patterns are observable from within the human body, from the branching of blood vessels, or the system of bronchi in the lungs and extending outward into nature, in the curling of a fern or the branching of a tree. They've held a certain fascinating and mystifying quality to me for a long time now, but I've never quite been able to put my finger on it. The Flower of Life strikes me with the same qualities.
Regardless, between the FOL and fractal geometry, I believe there is a great deal to be learned about the structure of the universe. And perhaps these constructs hold the answers to questions we haven't yet thought to ask.

It seems to me that many people today believe humanity to be a mature civilization approaching its final days. But I believe we are just now taking our first steps, we still have a long way to come. And I believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
We have so much to learn.

--Kit.

I actually don't know...all I can tell what was the earliest date we can trace it back to, which is said to be found on the alabaster steps that was once parts of the palace of King Ashurbanipal, and has been dated to 645 BC.

It does indeed have it's similarities.
It poses some interesting questions which we obviously can't answer...yet at least.
We do have a great amount to learn indeed.

Thank you everyone who has posted, for those links and opinions

As mentioned by a member, this was a very "simple" read...and I wanted it to be so. An outline, so to speak. Either this will make you back away with apprehensiveness or research more into it...and that is all I strived for.

I became interested in Fol and sacred geometry years ago. Long story. I also have a fascination with labyrinths. In the early eighties I began developing my own art style which I call terramaze.

In this sample you may see the eight petaled blossom with a three dimensional labyrinth woven throughout the center terramaze The labyrinth weaves it's way in one long single thread continually through the flower endlessly reaching its origin and beginning again.

Geometry & Gematria

The word "gematria" is mistakenly equated with the word "isopsephia" but gematria is actually a higher level of isopsephia. The word "gematria" comes from the Greek word geometria having the dual meaning "earth-measure" and "geometry." Gematria is Sacred Geometry. The definition of gematria goes way beyond adding up the numerical values of the letters in a word or pointing out that the-number of one word, phrase or verse is the same as or 2, 3, 4, 6, or 10 times more than the-number of another word or name. Gematria is the union of the number value of Greek words with the dimensions of geometric objects such as the perimeters of circles and squares or the lengths of symmetrical groups of lines that converge on circles and squares. The power and mystery of gematria is only unleashed when it is used in conjunction with geometry, graphs, and/or diagrams.

www.jesus8880.com...

Every single verse in the Gospel of Mark uses this graph. Volume 1 of this book will demonstrate how the authors of the gospels incorporated gematria and sacred geometry riddles in their stories to proclaim the raised Jesus. Volume 2 will demonstrate how the auther of the Book of Revelation used the same "raised Jesus graph" as the gospels but employed a style of gematria that was far more advanced and sophisticated to reveal "Jesus Christ."

While the flags and stars are appreciated, what I'm more looking for is some type of discussion on this, what YOUR opinions are...

...Why can runes and symbols be found in this?
...What meaning does it have?
...Why is it spread around the world..and used in everday things?

Here's a blog which I found on this topic, it may interest some.

Apparently, the FOL also has some spiritual sense to it...used for meditation and all:

Nice thread, I had heard about this a few times before, and being Italian I noticed that one of my country's Right-Wing political parties, Lega Nord, uses the Flower Of Life as it's symbol, and what's more, they trademarked it as their own. They call it "Sole delle Alpi" or "Sun of the Alps" in english.
One of their Ideals is that Northern Italy should be separated from the south and be a nation of their own, and "the dirty southerners" are thieves and barbarians. Basically they think this symbolises "the great north".
How are some people so ignorant...
It reminds me of how Hitler took a certain Hinduist and Buddhist icon, and made it a symbol of racism and hatred.
