Hi All,

Just thought id share the news but first some minor background.

After previous staff that worked with Assange on Wikileaks were unhappy with him, his motives and direction they decided to go in their own direction.

Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Chaos Computer Club - Wiki) and Herbert Snorrason decided to start their own site with a slightly perspective and philosphy on the very important issue of whileblowing.

Some information from the Openleaks site;

History

The basic ideas behind OpenLeaks originated as a set of ideas for extending WikiLeaks. The focus was originally technical, and its main aspects were presented in an application to the Knight Foundation, which raised considerable interest, but was ultimately denied. WikiLeaks however, does not provide an environment that allows us to follow our ideas, which prompted us to found the OpenLeaks project in September of 2010.

Idea

We are using our collective experience in an attempt to support, and help others to support whistleblowers; thus making the leaking of information more widespread, while simultaneously reducing the personal risk to those who fight corruption. Along the way, we shall also gather and document knowledge about leaking and make it accessible through our Knowledge Base.

Daniel Domscheit-Berg

... is a German journalist and transparency advocate. He has spoken on numerous occasions about whistleblowing and transparency, as well as its implications on democracy. Daniel worked with WikiLeaks for three years, acting as spokesperson and editor. In his life before WikiLeaks, he worked in the IT industry specializing in network design and security.

Or does no one care about Wikieaks or Openleaks anymore???

Maybe i should discuss topics that have no real facts behind them, i might get 20 flags then

I hope so, as far as i know there is nothing leaked as yet but i hope that is true

To the topic of Wikileaks, i have noticed the Cable releases have stopped as of the 26th of March????

Obviously the the Wikileaks traffic would have reduced quite abit but i still thought they would continue releasing the cables....

I say just dump it all and let us read it, although it does have to me censored in regard to certain names etc...

I still think the Insurance.AES file was the entire Cable dump.....

Another important site - and may there be many more. Democracy needs this. ...I don't see it as "competition," rather as support for the ideas of openness and transparency in government.

Here's my question: How do you think OpenLeaks will fare in the upcoming wikileaks movies? WikiRebels is already out, but will any of the upcoming theatrical projects (Dreamworks Spielberg, or Universal Shmuger / Gibney, or any of the others).

They'll hit big theaters and shape perception. They could show OpenLeaks as a big competitor and create drama, but will OpenLeaks be ready?

There's tons of threads about this already? Nothing new here.

Thats crap!

I searched 'openleaks' before posting this thread and nothing came up!

If there were so many threads then why didnt you post a link??

Also going by your profile image you are biased and still interested or perhaps affiliated with Wikileaks... So yes your critism is obvious for many reasons( your profile image mainly)

Are you Assange??

Anyways just spreading the news friend!

ahh i see the confusion...

My thread was to announce the Openleaks had gone live. Also if you had of noticed my thread included some better information on the site and media

There is nothing worse than a thread that lacks media, images, source content or quality...

It's nice to have diversity, if anything untoward should happen to one of them we will still have the other.

The more 'leaks' sites, the merrier. Having multiple outlets helps ensure the secrets reach the masses.

Only problem I see is that Open Leaks is set up like a vanity project the same way Wikileaks was. Why do the founders need to have their name so prominently attached to it?

When the government wanted to shut up Wikileaks, they just went after Assange. Now Assange has to play blackmail with the information that was given to him by concerned anonymous citizens, holding it back or threatening to release it based on his treatment by the legal system. I don't think that is what the LEAKED to the public, and not used as fodder by Assange.

Now that former CCC member Daniel Domscheit-Berg has his name so intertwined with Openleaks, it'll just be a repeat of what happened to Assange and Wikileaks. Daniel Domscheit-Berg should expect to get charged with some crime in the near future that will probably be based on fraudulent testimony by a government witness or he'll be charged with child porn or who knows what. I'm sure the government is looking into it...

But hey, now that Wikileaks has official competition, maybe Assange'll finally get around to releasing those banking files he's been threatening to for a while.

This isn't wikileaks competition btw. This is another alternative. WL works on a different principle.

Yeah i should have worded that a little better in the OP. When i said 'to compete with Wikileaks' i was going by stories that Daniel and others had left Wikileaks due to internal disagreements and yeah as you said different princibles.

In this game there should be not competing organisations only collaboration
to get the truth to the public.
