TORONTO (Reuters) - The Conservatives widened its lead against the opposition Liberals in an opinion poll released on Monday.

The Nanos Research tracking poll of results over three days of surveys put support for the Conservatives at 42.3 percent, up from 40.7 percent in Sunday's survey. Support for the Liberals slipped to 28.4 percent from 29.4 percent. Under Canada's electoral system, a party needs around 40 percent of the vote to win a majority of the 308 seats in the House of Commons in the May 2 federal election.

I'm not a huge Harper fan, although I DO live in his Calgary riding... But Canada's economy and banking system is/are the ENVY of the idustrialized world and that's NO thanks to Michael Ignatieff. He wants to hardcore tax our Canadian honeypot, the oilsands, to such an extent it will cap expansion. NOT something Albertans want to hear when hundreds of billions of dollars are being proposed + job creations.

I Do agree with you on that but Harper is no different then the Liberals, they are both the same, its just with its different leaders.

I Am not voting i haven't even voted the last time, it makes no difference makes in a democracy system you will always have someone from the elites which they never have respected the peoples trusted.

Though there are only a few responses in this thread, it would seem that some Canadians are bamboozled by the very same illusion of choice as the Red vs. Blue Americans. There are alternatives, such as researching the parties that the mainstream media shows no interest in. An example being The Pirate Party of Canada. This will be their first election.

Pirate Party of Canada

If you have an interest in copyright reform and net neutrality, this might be the party for you. There are other parties/independents of course, if you go looking for them.

Also, if you have no faith in the electoral process at all, I'd at the very least recommend you register and go vote. Don't select anyone on the ballot, just leave it blank and drop it in the box. They count blank ballots as "abstained" and a lot of them shows that the Canadian public is losing interest in their federal leaders.

So please, go vote. Even if you don't care about voting. Even if you think they're all crooks. Hell, write down, "You're all crooks!" on your ballot before putting it in the box.

The Canadian people from what I gather are completely detached from reality these days. Spending sprees, going deeper in debt while your government lowers corporate taxes to a rate of 16.5%? I suppose the term tread lightly does not ring well in the cold and the winter Olympics gave the people mania. There is no other explanation in this volatile global economic environment to behave the way the citizens of Canada are as a whole.

To my understanding the Liberal party was the one that was running surplus' and knocking down your debt. Harper essentially spent all that money, as well, his party was found in contempt of parliament and spent 1billion on security for a G20 meeting amongst many other things; including treatise that directly impact Canadian sovereignty and purchasing fighters that are rather impractical for Canada.

The comment about raising the taxes on oil companies in the tar sands leaving the companies unable to expand development is one of the most asinine comments I have ever heard in my entire life. Have you even seen the profitability charts for the sands and how it relates to the current market price per barrel?

Harper is an ego maniac who from what I have seen, smirks at the people while he talks to them. He is as shifty as they come, and I am not just saying that because he was the Chair of Bilderberg.

"Iggy" as you refer to him was one of the most popular professors at Harvard I believe. His intentions are not really known and it is up to Canadians to decide for themselves what they want. He is for certain connected in the US.

Alternatively you have the Dictator Harper who is all for the corporation and was party to a group dedicated to privatizing the Canadian Health Care System.

Good luck Canada.

I feel this second post was a big waste of my time.

It was a waste of your time, strictly because you made a partisan statement ignoring the fact that many others do not share your vision of Canada...amply pointed out by the fact that Steve has not yet achieved a majority. That actually underscores the fact that most Canadians don't share your vision.

The election will shake out the way it shakes out...but it's wrong to dismiss those who dare to disagree with you.
