Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire has been selected as the headquarters for a £1.3bn project to build the world's biggest radio telescope.

This will really cool seemingly it gives 50 times more sensitivity and 10,000 faster scanning rates than current radio telescope's.

The bit I found the most interesting:

help to detect signs of alien civilisations.

Pity it wont be finished by 2024...

Wrong pic, surely? (my bad, i just always expect to see the Lovell telescope)

Anyway, it makes a bit of sense, JB has a decent track record in radio telescopy.

I see that it will be controlled from Jodrell Bank, but the array will actually be built elsewhere (possibly southern Africa or Australia). This is not uncommon in modern astronomy.
