Free education from one of the top schools in America.

So, I just discovered that MIT offers free courses online in virtually every deptartment. To be clear, you cannot earn credits or a degree or anything of that nature, this is simply for people that want to learn. I had no idea this existed until about an hour ago and have been drooling over all the topics I can learn trying to figure out where to start.

I know you don't get a piece of paper, but I would be willing to bet that more than a few of the courses they offer could help your job status if it needs help. From my experience in the last few years, in certain fields, employers are caring less about a piece of paper and more about your actual knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge. Having said all that, even if it doesn't affect your job situation at all, is it ever a bad thing to acquire more knowledge?

Also, mods, after coming across this site I did a quick search and found a thread mentioning it about a year ago. I just figured that maybe there were a lot of new people on here like myself that had no idea it existed. If you dont' feel this thread is needed, then by all means, you can remove it and I promise I won't cry.

Thank you for the information. I'm definitely going to take advantage of that. If you think about it though.. the *Idea* that you presented here could be applied across the Internet in any field that *you* the individual might be interested in.

Let's say I want to become a more skilled Artist drawing faces... I go to google... type in key words... *Learn to draw faces* and you get...

Anyways, the Internet has a wealth of information. Sometimes you have to waddle threw the crap...but eventually you do find what you're looking for and also what you thought you weren't looking for and you find things that you have to literally burn brain cells over so it doesn't scar you for life.....lol You could have a free on-line education but as you stated no certificate... Butt.. I got a friend in BroookLYnn..haha

You're definitely right, great point. I think I just found this to be really awesome, because you rarely find this much information, presented in a structured manner on so many different topics in one place. Then on top of that it's information from one of the most respected learning institutions in the country.

yep i use it for school. Except you need to get the books on the subject and read up or you are going to be left in the dark

Yeah, you're right, some of them do, but not all of them. There are actually quite of few of the courses that have full written notes and a lot of them have videos of the weekly lectures.

Yes We have this link on our work intranet. Its a very valuable resource I have been doing hte Psychology and the audio lectures are great to listen to on the trip home after work!

Education is so very important.
I am semi=retired and do kids entertainment. I try to knock it into those heads how important education is.

Whether it is a trade or an advanced degree. If you do not have something beyond high school you are not going anywhere. A lot of people think of education as college but a plumber, electrician, mechanic .... are just as important.

A lot of colleges and universities do this. It sounds like a great way to review a class or subject before you spend money at the local college.

Finally a place where u can study for free since the United Corporate Socialist States of Amerika have charge school education with a ridiculous high price
