TOKYO, April 3, Kyodo

The health ministry said Saturday that lower levels of radiation materials than the legal limits were detected in farm products and seafood in and around Fukushima Prefecture where the crippled nuclear power plant is located.

In Fukushima, 33 out of 49 vegetables and fruits had radioactive cesium and iodine but their levels were below the limits set under the food sanitation law, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

''There is a possibility of proliferation of radioactive substances abating,'' a ministry official said
Anybody else think this is a cover up?

Absolute crap.

See that vid of the Greenpeace guys going over there and doing the readings?

The gagues ended up pegging to the maximum in sme areas, and uber high in others.

I wonder if the fruits and veggies were picked BEFORE the nuke incident started

I don't assume everything they say is true but neither do I assume everything they say is a lie.

Based on previous experience with three mile island and chernobyl, a healthy dose of skepticism about everything we hear is warranted. If they have a camera crew showing the guy holding the meter and showing the reading it becomes a little easier to believe.

The rates also don't seem to be steady, it seems to go up and down, so if it's down today it could be back up tomorrow.

This is no cover-up. How can we dare question the honesty and truth that Japan and it's Government, NISA (Nuclear Industry and Safety Agency) and all of the TEMPCO workers who will agree that there is no need to be concerned about the radioactive material that may or may not have escaped from the reactors.

Clearly Radiation is good for you. Japan knows first hand the health benefits of radiation from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. People didn't die from cancer in these cases, they were cured from cancer. Radiation cures cancer and is safe. The EPA just realized how safe radiation really is so they are raising the safety limits.

Heck, may as well just strip all the limits. Radiation is good soul food for humanity and the planet. Every Government is saying that all the radiation levels are safe that have been detected from the Fukushima reactor. Even in Canada they have decided to stop bothering with monitoring the air, water and milk samples because there is nothing to see here. It's really a level 2 on a scale of 7 but they will probably reduce that number once they get more of these safe readings out to the media-induced public.

Japan will probably start letting evacuated people move back and ensure they have plenty of Fukushima grown food and water to eat and drink. Radiation is safe, there is no harmful levels detected.

What's the problem, why all the worry about this little hiccup at Fukushima. More reactors need to be built on fault lines IMO, meltdowns are totally safe! Chernobyl taught us that. No one died there from radiation... all those deaths were just other normal health problems.

I don't know where the news article is, should have bookmarked it where they ordered new readings to be taken and scrap the old readings because NISA claimed the readings were too high.

I think management took the batteries out of the "faulty" Geiger counters and smashed them against some rocks then gave them back to the workers so they could get more accurate readings.

In Fukushima, 33 out of 49 vegetables and fruits had radioactive cesium and iodine but their levels were below the limits set under the food sanitation law, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

''There is a possibility of proliferation of radioactive substances abating,'' a ministry official said.

Four farm products in Niigata Prefecture, west of Fukushima, did not contain either of the radioactive substances, while cesium was detected in five marine products off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture but was well below the limit.

Samples of seawater taken some 20 to 30 kilometers off the coast near the radiation-leaking Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which was crippled in the wake of March 11 mega quake and ensuing tsunami, had lower levels of iodine and cesium than their limits, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology said.

The amount of radiation in the air in Ibaraki and Tokyo continued to fall on Saturday, and Kanagawa Prefecture saw it return to normal levels, according to data compiled by the ministry.
