Gonna go smoke.

I'll finish reading this when I get back.

This is all good and scary and all. But in reality, I sadly but oddly enough have known many life long smokers that have lived to be 90+ years old. "Facts" and "statistics" are one thing, but watching them pan out in reality is another. I guess our bodies are more resistant and resilient than we are led to believe. I guess the MSM was not so far off when they said radiation is a good thing.

I read ya brudda.
I smoke too much for anticarcinogens to be a factor, or do i?
My great aunt lived till 87 smoking roughly 3 packs a day for as far back as i can recall.
And i spent quite a bit of time in her presence as she was more like a grandma than an aunt.
But whether or not smoking is good or bad for us i will say that i will worry about lung cancer the day i have visual clear proof that the world will be destroyed by another celestial body.

I will say that smoking can benefit firefighters, my uncle also smoked like a chimney and had mentioned on more than one occasion that fires were not nearly as effective against smoking firemen than they were against the non smokers.
He finally died at 57 but he did have a communicable diseas, he actually died from cheeseburgers...err congestive heart failure.
I did not shed a tear for him, he LIVED and did it quite well i might add.

Geesh, so many think smoking is good for you! i posted about my parents and all, smoking stage 4 lung cancer here. When i was 11/12 my good friend, david, his grandmother has emphasyma.and had an oxygen mask..benson and hedges did it too her. another friend, younger, grandmother lives across the street for me, his grandfather at the time, emphasyma.i dont know what he smoked, but he was very moodya nd had an oxygen mask on 24/7 due to smoking.
smoking dostn affect everyone the same. some say its our genes, something in the ciggs activates the cancer, others it wont. soemthing abuot genes* as a teen, my frineds mom, talked about her grandfatehr, in WWI, stationed in turkey. he wouls smoke thier turkish tobacco. he ever got sick,a nd died at age 97. her conclusion..they dont put all the nasty chemicals in their ciggs, like in america they do.

Cigarettes are a lot like hamsters: perfectly harmless until you put one in your mouth and light it.

thank you for this thread! i heard long ago about the radiation in cigerettes but could never understand how a plant could be so incredibly radioactive. now i know.
the question is are there any taobacco companies that are actively trying to reduce the radiation content in their product?

I smoke roll ups. I buy a 12 and a half gramm packet of tobacco every 2 days.
I have 2 babies in the house and only smoke outside, out the laundry room window or when I am taking the dog a walk.

My partner does likewise. We are light smokers, mid 30s in age.
We started this about 10 years ago, we used to smoke a 20 pack a day, each.

When I spoke a ciggy from a packet, it is WAY to strong...I just cant smoke a ciggy from a packet.
A roll up is very light, the brand I smoke is Golden Virgina Gold

This is what I smoke:

My Grandmother lived till she was 88 and SWORE blind rolling tobacco was the way to go, this is why my partner and I smoke roll ups. We use filter tips also. Good ones.

I know a lot of people who smoke "roll your own" and a lot of them are way into their 60s and 70s.
My own father is 67 smokes a pouch "As above" a day. He walks 20 miles a day and is a VERY fit man.
He also swears by hand rolling.

People, like my other Grandmother, who died from smoking Benson and Hedges here in the UK died from lung cancer. My own mother is in her early 50s and smokes Regal 20 packs, she has emphazima *BADLY*.

I am no expert, but it sure looks like handrolling, using your own filters is a damn sight better than packs.

Just my 2c

There is a conspiracy that the radiation in cigarette smoke is actually beneficial to the human body and prevents many diseases that non smokers get normally .

Government health organizations say smoking is bad because the big business owners and think-tanks figured out that smokers need far less health care than non smokers.
That's awesome, haha. One conspiracy I wouldn't mind being true

It kind of is,

"In many studies, you often find smokers are slimmer. We've certainly seen it in our studies," says Jodi Flaws at the University of Maryland school of medicine. "Some people think it's due to certain chemicals in cigarettes somehow making them burn more calories, but others believe it suppresses appetite. It may well be both."

www.guardian.co.uk... (halfway down)

There are claims that Tobacco use increases blood flow in certain areas of the brain, reduces risks of Alzheimer's and Dementia, helps people stay more slim, I thought I read somewhere where it might be able to fight ADHD or ADD, reduces stress and anxiety, great anti-depressant, and what not. I'm sure there are other(s) studies being done.

ETA: Don't get me wrong or my words twisted, smoking is like a double edged sword, has good benefits and bad benefits...But hey! What doesn't these days? Acetaminophen (Tylenol), mild pain and fever reducer, too much can cause liver damage, etc.

Oak Ride National Laboratory

The Origin and magnitude of inhalation exposure and dose from tobacco
products was also assessed. For the majority of internal organs evaluated,
the dose resulting from smoking commercially available tobacco products
is comparable to or greater than the dose estimates for ingestion of
naturally occuring dietary PB-210 and PO-210.

aka smoking your cig gives you about the same radiation dose as eating say corn or cereal.

The shhh shhh secret really is that nearly all fertilizer has radioactive components (even organic fertilizers). The companies don't really say this because people panic. Even my box of Miracle Grow and your lawn fertilizer is somewhat radioactive. If you are giving up up your cigs might as well give up your crops too as they too are just as radioactive from the same fertilizer. Farm animal feed is also made from crops that have been grown in fertilized fields so cut off their food supply too.

Not to say that smoking is all good and all.

I lived in a smokers environment for most my life. When I was 14 I lived in a smoke free house at my grandparents. I had shaved 30 seconds off my mile run time during that year. Funny thing is that I took another 30 seconds off that time 8 years later, but I was now a smoker for 6 of those years. A 4.55 minute mile is pretty dang fast for a smoker I thinks. How many nonsmokers can do that? 10 years later I can still hit 5.30 without trying too hard, and I've smoked the entire time. So, what is that supposed to lead you to believe?

I really think that there's a lot they aren't telling us. Smoking is one of those issues that will divide us. Just like abortions and gay marriage. What if cigarette smoke helps to expectorate harmful toxins from the lungs, aka smokers cough? I'm not saying its a fact, but would we get any reliable studies to prove it when the current dogma states that smoking is bad?

Another point, could we trust our gov to ban something like tobacco if it truly was the most poisonous thing on this planet? No. It gets restricted, but they won't ban it outright. What should that tell you?

I'm a smoker, almost 20 years now. I started when I 15 and smoked a little less then a pack a day ever since, never got health problems related to smoking.

personally I'm sick of hearing statements like "smokers should wake up"
With all the warnings they put on the packs these days, the warnings in adds and in the media, the charts they throw at our heads... do you seriously believe we are ignorant and need to wake up? Do you seriously think we are blind for all these warnings?

Thing is, I personally don't believe the warnings. I'm sure a person would be healthier not smoking... I'm also sure there are a zillion other things that can give you cancer.

My father had cancer throughout his entire body... except in his lungs... he smoked for 40 years, two packs a day. One of my employees got lung cancer at age 15 and he never touched a sigarette, neither did his parents smoke. There are so many examples of the above that they are more then a coincidense or an exeption to the rule.

In the mean time, smokers are being targetted all over the world:
the warnings on the package, it's an attempt of "suggestive advertising" that is clearly not working.
We get banned in restaurants and bars and all other kind of public places, while the nonsmokes are being brainwashed into agreeing with the banning of smokers.

Smoking is bad for you. Alcohol is bad for you. Drugs are bad for you. Working with specific chemicals is bad for you. Paining your house with certain paints is bad for you. The polution caused by cars is bad for you. Swallowing gum is bad for you. To much fat in your food is bad for you. Not getting enough exercise is bad for you. Spending to much time in front of a computer screen or tv is bad for you. Walking in the rain wearing only a tshirt is bad for you. Letting a dog lick your face is bad for you. Getting shampoo into your eyes is bad for you.
lol ok, I could go on giving more stupid examples untill it becomes rediculous...
But yet it are the smokers that are targetted....

let me smoke my cigarett in peace and if I ever die from it it'll be my own choice

Same here:
I am a smoker since 50 years, I started smoking when I was eight. Most of my life I smoked the strongest and darkest rolling tobaco available and I too never had a health problem conected with smoking. I like to smoke and I know, I dont stop smoking not because I am addicted, but because I like it too much. I am also botherd by them Quacks, following me, trying to tell me I should'nt smoke. Sometimes I wish they would all go up in smoke...

Now, this is the honest truth: After having smoked for fifty years and never had practised any kind of sport, I joined a martial arts club where they trained in Aikido. There I found that I had more breath in me then almost all the youngsters who had never smoked.Lets put it this way: "Life is life threatening because you eventually die from it, but we still live it, dont we?"

Yes it is indeed and it's admirable. I have no reason or right to change it by force

This is once again, just one side.

Smoking has both good effects and bad...we just need to actually identify which one is larger.

i am really confused regarding this topic..

my take on this??

i live in the grand harbour of Malta..here..

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/daa183c17214.jpg[/atsimg]

and as you may well imagine, with all the ships and tankers going in and out + you add many bars/restaurants next to the sea it aint the cleanest sea of the world.

In fact i realized that if somebody out of town came swimming he will have some trouble afterwards, like spots or sickness

My self being from town and used to swim everyday during summer holidays had no side effects whatsoever. Its because i think my body adopted to the situation.

Also another piont :

14 months ago i decided to say goodbye to my beer belly so i started working out at the gym, eat a proper nutrition etc..to loose weight faster i decided to opt for human power instead of horse power (my car) to goto work...at first i was sitting down after just 5 mins walking fast..i blamed smoking but no t wasnt smoking , it was just pure laziness.

14 months after, now i had to chose harder routes with more slopes and stairs to keep up with my stamina and i didnt quit smoking.

so my point is..since one smokes on daily basis, can your body adapt too to this situation??

we know of alot of people who died in their 90's whilst they still smoke, i also start thinking that maybe when one stops smoking that problems related to smoking starts to emerge...strange indeed

Oh yea? Have you smoked and suffered such consequences yourself or have you only been told that it is that way? Like I said, I am smoking for fifty years now and I dont feel that it has hurt my health at all. I would say I have no more or less TAR in my lung then you or the Guy next to us. Why dont you just go and mind your own business and leave people who wish to smoke in peace with yout threadfull storys? Or if you cant let it be because you are "addicted" to spreading the weird stuff, go after the poor suckers who weigh to much then modern medicin alowes them to. Chase the fat Guys, its en vogue nowadays, because many of them also feel good the way they are, until people like you come along, with their threadfull health horror storys, to mess up their lifes with a rotten consionsness. I am pushing sixty now, and I dont know how old you are. But maybe you aint that old yet. If this is the case, try to become that old by minding your own business and without running around like a parrot, repeating what some wise guys in white coats have told you.
