Well, so far so good for those trying to recall the Wisconsin Senators who voted against the public unions collective bargaining rights.

In half the time allowed the petition to recall Sen. Dan Kapanke has the necessary signatures. Also, it sounds like the other 18 recall efforts are going swimmingly.

lacrossetribune.com...

This is going to get interesting, don't you agree?

We got the power to vote you in.
And the power to vote you out.

I hope that politicians wake up and realize that people are getting fed up.
And the only thing that's keeping them from marching down to the capital with pitchforks and torches is American Idol.

I hope it it goes well and I hope Ohio follows suit. Senate bill 5 was just signed into law yesterday
here. We have to stop the attack on America's middle class and redirect it at the elite who are paying
little to no taxes at all! My paycheck continues to shrink as everything I purchase continues to increase in price.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I will be too broke to pay all my bills at this rate.
It's got to stop!

grey580,

Very nice summary. Let us hope your words start ringing more and more true.

Peace.

longtermproject,

With all due respect, perhaps we should be telling the Banksters to stop milking us? They're not even using their hands, they're using one of those damn pumping machines and the sucker is set at 100%.

Peace.

Cool, the unions must be happy.

I'll tell who else is happy. The governors of right to work states that have low (relatively speaking) taxes than Wisconsin.
Those gents are calling up CEOs right now and offering them sweet deals to relocate, the same way that Catepillar is getting courted by South Carolina, Kansas and South Dakota and will likely move their firm and those jobs out of Indiana. Same way Boeing moved out of Washington and NCR moved out of Dayton. Same reason all of the new auto plants are being built in right to work states.

The public unions can run the state into the dirt, with debt, and stringent, anti-business regulations (what are public employees to do other than enforce needless regulations?) You need paper to push around to justify your job and collect your pension.

Let them toss the folks out. Good for them, we'll see democracy in action. Let the corporations pull the jobs out of the state and relocate to somewhere sanity is actually possible to find and we'll see how Wisconsin does. That is simply another form of democracy. Same goes for individuals who have been moving out of high tax, poorly run, heavily unionized states for a long time. Where are they moving? To other high tax, heavily unionized states? Nope. They are moving to right to work states that have a bit of budget sanity.

Good luck to the unions. I live in a right to work state and that means more jobs coming to a neighborhood near me.

You know what would be funny. ……..

If they have all the recall elections, and no one that voted for it gets kicked out.

Just because you have enough signatures to initiate an election, doesn’t mean you have the votes to win one.

I would say the communists/socialists will probably start open violence then. If they can’t control the country, then they won’t let the other people control it.

I agree.... they should stop as well, but just because the bankers are sucking us dry, does not mean that the rest of the people should be pushing for a cut.... I have busted my butt since I graduated college and am only making $5 more an hour than when I started 7 years ago.... If I was in a Union with collective bargaining I would be making alot more than that.... and that would include any other worker that may or may not work as hard as I do.... Tell me how that is even close to being right.... Its a down right joke if you ask me

The number one rule for a successful parasite is - don't kill your host.

Unions, particularly public sector unions, and PAC's have destroyed a truly representative democracy in the US.

My heart gose out to Wisconsin. RIP if these strong arm tactics triumph.

Interesting to see someone so boldly and proudly pro-corporation, our new kings. I see you are wisely currying favor with the true rulers of the planet. smart.

Great examples of RTW states like SC, too. That state also has some of the highest levels of unemployment, illiteracy, and crime in the country. Gotta love those free market principles!

I have to admit to being a bit perplexed when I see so many working-class folks such as myself just bash unions. I am not in a union. Furthermore, I am actually a member of Management in my company.

I see our labor situation as walking backwards towards the early 1900s. Do you really want to go back to the working conditions from back then?

Remember the Triangle Shirtwaist Company? Just to refresh everyone's memory I'll use a post from a different site's forum:

We were discussing this in History class today, and I have to say that it somewhat shook my belief in free markets. Besides the abysmal conditions in inner cities(orphaned children everywhere, dead horses and raw sewage in the street, racial violence, etc.), the working conditions were awful. One case in particular stands out: The Triangle Shirtwaist Co. I'm sure many of you have heard of it. The workforce was mainly populated by young teenage girls. Before the incident happened, the ladies went on strike for 13 weeks, but actually ended up getting a pay CUT because the owners of the company sent out thugs to beat the # out of the woman to get them to come back to work.

mises.org...

I hardly believe unions to be perfect, but I most certainly do not want to see us go back to these sort of situations.

Peace.

Lets take a look at another union town that did have its way with the states funds. . . . .

Detroit.

Yup. Y'all should be so happy in Wisconsin.

beezzer,

Two points if I may...

1 - How much of what hurt Detroit was lousy management? Management that by the way was making a helluva lot more than the dude working the line.

2 - Please remember that the SHTF because the Walker administration wanted to deny Collective Bargaining Rights for union members. The union members were willing to concede to wage and benefit cuts, but that wasn't enough apparently. Personally, I understand the need for these folks to retain that right.

Peace.

Unions (public) still HAVE that right. What was removed was the right to negotiate healthcare pay-ins and retiement pay-ins.

They can still negotiate their salaries.

Sour grapes and a road to Detroit.

My point is why shouldn't they have those rights? Couldn't this be an example of death by a thousand cuts?

Sour grapes and a road to Detroit?

Thanks for the reply.

Peace.

Public unions are paid through tax payer funds. Tax payers can't afford the free healthcare, free retirements that public unions get anymore.

We're broke.
The country is broke.

The only way to keep their bennies is to raise taxes. THAT'S what the public unions wanted.
