So?..

Tomahawk missiles are $1,000,000.00

Atleast this toad isn't killing anything but eye-sight.

All those missiles are outdated and need to be used or disposed of. Our money is going to good use!

Patton would be worth twice that. I have been to the Patton Museum while stationed in Knox, and let me tell you, awe inspiring. I've touched the actual WWII pieces of German and US sides. Some where, I wont tell, but my finger prints are all over those to not touch displays. I guess in a few decades or hundred years, my residual finger prints will confuse a scholar or two, but history that close is a devil to refuse...don't tell me, you would not touch the panzer.

UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!

I keep telling myself this has to be an April Fool's joke that leaked out a day early. This is pure insanity that tax-payer have to be screwed like this, paying $600,000 for that hideous P.O.S.! Or the fact that here we are, building another defense department building for 700 million!

This is called having your cake and eating it to.

We need art. Good art in our public spaces.

I guess the barren, efficient cityscapes of Eastern Germany, the Soviet Union, and North Korea are more to your liking? And for $600K, who cares, it's not even real money anymore. None of it's real. This is big government, not you or I balancing our checkbooks (that's overly simplistic and a poor association).

And it's our tax dollars. Oh noes!!!!!

lol, this reminds me of around 1994-95.in the news, congress spent $400 on a hammer. anyones lcoal hardware store, sells a hammer for $5 and up. goes to show out of control spending is thier. too corporitish ide say.
made me kinda laugh..the pentagon, involved in defense, has a fairy n toad..resembling peace ide say. so intent to drop bombs on people, and having a peaceful statue inhte yard...its conflicting ya know. made me think they belive in fairys

You don't care that it is the tax payers who front the bill for unneeded expenditures? I bet your all for nationalizing everything too...let someone else make the decisions...as long as you don't have to right?

I'll take your soft ball pitch. No, I don't give a damn it's my tax dollars because it is exactly the type expenditure I'm happy with - art. Not war. Not whatever nefarious activity the US is up to. I can visit VA, point at this ugly frog and happily say, "I paid for this."

As for nationalizing everything... find the balance man, you're going extreme.

Ask yourself: Do I like Alaska as a state? If the answer is yes, then understand the whole state is paid for by the Federal government.

Then it only solidifies that you and people like you are the problem. Your logic, only wanna see what affects you personally. Everything is be damned.

Why have any art at all? Plain walls is fine with me. Screw sculptures, we can just donate all the money.

Especially with what is deemed as " art " these days? Sad excuse for a hobby.

600K isn't even a drop in the DOD budget. Thats part of the reason why they spend money on goofy stuff like this.

One also has to look at how the budget system works for the DOD:

Military commanders are allocated a budget and sometimes they don't spend all of it, but if they don't spend it they get less money in the next fiscal year. So what do most commanders do? They find something to spend that "extra" money on.

I don't know if thats what exactly happened here or this is a April fools joke, but the spending isn't impossible.

And the government wonders WHY the people have almost ZERO faith in the ability of the government to do ANYTHING with an ounce of common sense. A toad?, A fairy?, really?, Seriously?. I mean, come on !

For those interested, this is one of the four choices - it's not a done deal. Although, looking at the other three, a 10-fairy on a gurgling toad seems like the best choice.

See the four art options here

Maybe it's an ironic metaphor of the fantasy land of our military-industrial complex. Maybe one of the Saudi princes likes toads.

I'll assume you're on the opposite side of the fence with this above statement, so I'll call it like I see it: you must be a socialist then.

No my friend, me, and people like me, have shed blood for this country and care deeply for its well being, including all its citizens. When you get up in arms about $600K dumb frog and fairy sculptor I hear only one thing... you have been fed the talking points by misguided politicians. Because the truth, if we're really honest with ourselves, is that all politicians are the same. They're nearly identical once they get into office.

You'll get your guy or gal in be the highest office in 2016, and guess what - there will still be stupid $600K expenditures on art, and hammers, and toilet seats, and whatever else gets reported.

And final note, this ain't like balancing your checkbook - not even close. It's funny money. If this project is halted you are not getting a refund on your taxes, your taxes will not ever really go down, heck you'll get taxed more for something else. So better realize this trash now, and make course corrections in your life to protect your people and the society you care about.

Cheers.

Edit to add: After seeing the choices posted above (thanks OhioPariah), I agree the frog is the best option, but man it is god awful.
