Since I am (obviously) not from the US and thus limited in my knowledge about public opinion by the comment section on youtube (great!!), I have a question.

What is the mainstream opinion on Ron Paul by the people of the US? I mean, MSM obviously don't like him all that much, but since he's running for office he gets some airtime nonetheless.
So, does his message come through and will he have an honest chance of becoming the republican candidate or is the public opinion to greatly influenced by the media?

Peace

Mainstream America seems to either not know him or not take him seriously. He speaks to a small and growing group of TRUE Americans who realize that our nation has been heading down the wrong path for some time now.

We can only hope he doesn't get elected. Ron Paul in my opinion is a career politician who only offers lip service to the masses. He is lobbyist controlled just like the rest of them.

In my opinion America doesn't need to keep getting presidents from congress, we need a real citizen as a president, not a lawyer or a lobbyist puppet.

Unfortunately the media is a big problem as so many people are still stuck in what they see on TV or read in mainstream news otherwise.

The irony is telling - when discussing his IDEAS in general without sourcing them, people see the common sense and tend to like what they hear. When reading what he's written or hearing him speak without what it is, a good many are quite impressed with his convictions.

But they also tend to believe "Ron Paul can't win" just because this is shoved in their face so often by those who wish it so (seriously? With as many people who like him and say that, here's a fix: shut up and support him and you might be surprised, with as many people as are sick of the way things are going). Thankfully this is becoming less of a problem than it was last time around as people are starting to wake up to the media being, well...teh suck, but it's still an issue.

Good news, though. He's already starting off with much higher name recognition this time and the republican base, at least a good chunk of it, is starting to warm up to their roots and agree with him. I don't know if he'll actually end up in the fight or not, but odds are much better this time as people can directly see what he was right about, and are finally starting to get upset about some of the right things. Hopefully we'll move past the false left/right split this time. The door is definitely much more widely open for a liberty-minded candidate than it was last time around.

And so far I'm generally pleased with what I've seen from him son Rand. If Ron doesn't run - which I understand although would make me sad - I think Rand would be a very good substitute. Otherwise I'll likely be looking more into Gary Johnson, myself.

Be well.

How can you say he was giving lip service to the masses when the things he's been saying for the last couple decades have been very unpopular with the masses? But he still said em.

Ron Paul WAS a real citizen who got into politics to make real changes, not just a career. Many of us love and support him and his following is growing. Unfortunately, he probably will not be allowed to win.

Ron Paul is for a small, constitutional government with low taxes and a sound money. He is very much anti Fed (central bank). The MSM doesn't provide much coverage of him because his following is small compared to most of the potential republican candidates.
I don't understand why more americans don't follow his principles. Maybe because there are more and more that prefer a socialist nanny state to take care of them rather than taking individual responsibility for their own welfare.
I like Ron Paul but I'm in a minority I fear.

Because he refuses to give in to either Party's agenda, Senator Paul is always at a disadvantage because the media ignores him or outright spotlights him as a novelty act of the conspiracy theorist platform. I believe the only reason he is still a member of Congress is that the Elite are very capable of using his TRUE Americanism as a ruse to the masses who will always fall for their lies.

Wow. Here's someone who doesn't really know much about Ron Paul.

Lobbyists gave up on this guy long ago because he WON'T welch on his principles for special interests. Disagree with his beliefs all you want (although I'd suggest significant research and review before doing so as you're likley misunderstanding something), but unlike...well, EVERYONE else on the hill, he has been consistently on effectively all of his political views for the past 30 years or so. He's never taken a taxpayer-finded junket, never voted to raise taxes, voted against the Iraq war and the PATRIOT act...I could go on all day.

Unlike any of the other candidates in the '08 race, his primary base of monetary support was small donations - averaging $50, I believe, from individuals. NOT large donations from big business, banks, etc., like everyone else. Yet he raised over $30 million. From the people, not from special interests.

Before you try to dog on ANY candidate, please do some research first and provide support for any claims you make that might otherwise damage them. You just might be screwing YOURSELF over, otherwise. Trust me, without someone who shares at least a good chunk of Ron Paul's beliefs and integrity this time around, there aren't many fixes or happy days to look forward to.

Be well.

HAHAHAHAHA I would highly suggest you do a little more research regarding Ron Paul.

Fact is, it is not lip service. He has and continues to introduce legislation that goes against the status quo, it just never gets passed. A perfect example of this is his 'Audit the Fed" bill.

Thanks for all of your very quick replies!

I can't help but hope this man does get his recognition. I mean, I liked Obama when he first came into the picture but in retrospect his whole campaign seemed so perfectly orchestrated instead of having to perfect the content. I don't say Ron Paul is 'perfect' but in any sense he seems to be a man for the people instead of one of the people.

All you people who worship Ron Paul like he's some sort of god really do need to take your own advice and look at who is actually funding this guy. Maybe you will figure out that he is just like the rest and that's why he's been in congress for 30 years.

Here's some more information for you.

If your main concern is who is funding his campaigns then you're never going to see that he actually is a different kind of politician. He and Jessie Ventura are a few of the only politicians I respect. Our whole political systems is just one puppet following another pushing the international banking agendas. Ron Paul actually has the courage to call them out publicly. Look at the last political figure who seriously challenged the FED: JFK. He was killed along with his brother. Ron Paul is one of the few politicians whose end game is pushing the agenda of the american people, not some fat rich bankers trying to make money off of war and oil.

I can only speak for myself here, but I don't try to treat him like he's any sort of god. It's not about Ron or Rand themselves, it's about their message, what they've verifiably tried to do with the time they've had in congress, and the fact that they are in fact so very different from the others out there.

If you could please provide some information as to who you feel "funds" Ron Paul and why is actually like the rest, I'll be glad to look into it. But I've been following Ron more or less actively since he cured my apathy and got me interested and hopeful once more during 2007 in the debates.

When I see someone actively disagreeing with the career politicians, frequently being the lone dissenting vote in the house on so many issues, and trying to shrink government and the military industrial complex, I get very interested. There are few points which I can find to take issue with him on.

And he happens to be in congress still after so many terms because his district supports him strongly in every congressional race - despite the fact that he votes AGAINST legislation which would benefit them. They support him for his beliefs, his integrity, and his honesty. Heck, he delivered quite a few of his constituents himself - he's a former OBGYN and refused to accept medicare/medicaid as treatment for his services since this comes from the taxpayer - he would instead discount his services.

Be well, and please provide some clarifying information if you could. But unless you can present something weighty I somehow haven't run into before, I will remain keen on Ron Paul since he is one of the rare principled statesmen we don't really see much anymore, from what I have seen.

That is interesting information though thanks for sharing. Really makes you realize what runs politics and actually gets people elected (it's not their political platforms thats for sure). It's stupid money. I hate money...
