Gunmen kill retired Iraqi general , page 1

GUNMEN attacked a retired Iraqi general who had worked for the former US occupation government as he headed to a mosque to pray today, killing him and another man, Mosul police Captain Ahmed Subhi said.

Major General Salim Majeed Blesh, 58, who had been a top commander in the Iraqi army, was assassinated in the southern part of Mosul. A neighbour who was with him, Sami Noori, 68, was also killed, Subhi said.
