A Rocket Short of an Airstrike.

The much anticipated Iron Dome Defence system has come online. This, it seems, is part of the Israeli plan to step up its defense against ongoing Gaza attacks. And a big one at that...

ISRAELI aircraft struck a Palestinian rocket squad in the Gaza Strip yesterday as a new defence system to protect southern Israel from militants' rockets prepared to go online after years of development, the military said. - Sapa-AP

As for the new weapons system, this one was backed by the Obama administration…

Iron Dome uses sophisticated cameras and radar to track incoming rockets, determine where they will land, and intercept and destroy them far from their targets. If the system determines the rocket is headed to an open area where casualties are unlikely, it can allow the weapon to explode on the ground.

From a previous thread

The Pentagon has issued a message to Israel's Defense Ministry that U.S. President Barack Obama has approved the transfer of special assistance totaling $205 million (just under NIS 800 million) for the purchase of more than ten Iron Dome batteries.

The Israel Defense Forces ducked away from funding the project with its budget, explaining that offensive readiness was a higher priority

He added that the Defense Ministry has yet to decide how to allocate the funds. He stressed that it would

Now I don’t know much more than the average news reading person about the goings on between Israel and Palestine, but it seems as though there has been quite a bit of hoo-haa regarding the development of this system and the backing it has received elsewhere.

The technology is incredible, capable of working out the trajectory of incoming rockets and intercept and destroy them before they get near the target. They also have the ability to let rockets with harmless trajectories explode on target.

This should create much scurrying about in Iran, I would assume. Either way, there is a lot of Sh!ft happening right now…

Nice to have a budget, and if you dont want to use it
you just ask your b*tch to buy the new toys for you.

And, looking at the picture of the unit,
it looks like the boys in Gaza will have to fire off 16 rockets at once
just to get 1 through.
