I'm not pretending it's not happening, I'm pointing out how demoralized and boxed many of you guys are. You guys are saying that because it happens, it must be acceptable. That's idiotic. IF our society had an intact moral structure still, society WOULD shun these bastards, and our species WOULD become stronger over time.

I think this thread is just another great example of what I like to call "left-brained idiocy".

I would like to point out that it is my opinion (i mean no disrespect) that you may be missing the realistic points of perspective. I come from a country where prostitution is illegal. It's considered a national shame. Everyone here is too holy to accept the fact that it happens horribly here.

IF a young mother finds herself alone to fend for her new child, and can only resort in prostitution, wouldn't it be nice for her to be able to do so safely?

IF said mother was often beaten up and abused, let's say she got abused to death, her child starves to death and word of this got out, you know what my people would think?

My one advice here is that there is no such thing as being holier or morally superior by being ignorant. People suffer. I'm sure those prostitutes wanted to grow up and be a Disney princess, marry the love of their life and be a mother to a family.

Reality can be terrible to some of us.

Sorry, you're going to have to provide some support for these claims. What makes you think that more consensual sex leads to more disease necessarily? One might say that cooking food leads to more disease too, except we have technology to keep it from spoiling. Safe sex and no sex are different, wouldn't you say?

And lying to one's family would certainly lead to problems -- but what is there inherently about prostitution which forces someone who is married to engage in it and lie about it? Nothing, of course. Families are broken up when people give in to any number of temptations. I don't think fishing should be made illegal just because my grandfather used to sneak out of the house at five AM to head down to the lake. That's a matter of his personal responsibility, not government intervention. Aren't personal responsibility and freedom from the government important to conservative ideology?

These advocates for prostitution are, as you know, standing right here, so you can just ask us directly. However, I have to say your tone is making me smile. It's clear you find the very idea so incredibly bizarre and outrageous that you just can't imagine anyone making the argument for legalization could possibly ever truly think, deep inside, that there's nothing wrong with people using their bodies to make money whether they're having sex or mixing concrete.

I don't really know how to communicate with you if you are going to refuse to believe anyone with my views could possibly be arguing in good faith. All I can say is that, amazing as you may find it, I do not find the idea of my kid growing up to be a sex worker any more upsetting than the idea of her growing up to enter ANY profession where workers are not adequately protected. I do think there are problems with the reality of prostitution -- I just don't think they're different from the problems with the reality of being a coal miner. Which, by the way, is also quite destructive to families, since sudden catastrophic death and injury tend to be a bit disruptive and expensive.

What about in the Netherlands? Prostitution is legal there and is well regulated, to work as a prostitute you have to register to become one, they then receive a photographic pass and a registration number. They also have to be over 21 and are subjected to regular screenings and check ups so that they are not infected. Some say that there is a greater risk of catching an STD from a random girl at a bar (makes sense)

If their children are of legal age, they dont have a say in wether or not they sell themselves. When a child is of legal age, they are an adult and make their own decisions. No one would prostitute their child. (hopefully) that is the sole choice of the prostitute.
