Sure it makes a sound, all that sound is a wave or pulse that carries a change in density. But does anyone care? If no living thing hears (or gets taken out, nesting birds included) the crash? I like to think the spacial field will change, may matter in many way's beyond us, or our understanding. But I believe at least one thing, no question. It matters to the tree.
