Indeed. Since 1997, Labour doubled the size of the Civil service and mananged to turn a multi-billion £ budget surplus into a record deficit inside
of a decade, with no apreciable increse in levels of service.
From their own mouths, Labour practiced a policy of social engineering with a multi-pronged approach, namely immigration and creation of client
voters (Government workers and the "benefit class").
The Government needs to get more efficient, as to be honest a civil servant wouldn't know a hard days work if it smacked him in the mouth and this
was needed long before the recession kicked in. It is
NOT SUSTAINABLE for nearly 50% of GDP to come from Government spending, as it was when
Labour were evicted last year. It is also worth noting that Labour have a 0% success rate at pulling the UK out of Historic recessions, but a pretty
good track record at putting us in them.
What people, like these Public Sector Workers, don't seem to understand is that continuing to spend like there isn't a recession just to maintain
"jobs" will only end up with us going the way of Ireland or Greece, our credit rating downgrading and debt payments balloning as interest rates
rise. This will hit growth even harder, cause more unemployment and send the economy into a tail-spin.
It is also interesting to note that all the councils proposing cuts to their workforce are Labour run. Politicking much? My local council, Topry run
btw, is not sacking anyone, is maintiaing the level of service we currently have (we even have bin collections
EVERY week still) and has even
kept Council Tax rates at 2009/10 levels with no increase whatsoever.
This is all a very well managed attempt by Labour and their Union Allies (the ones who put Millband the Younger in power despite the Elder one getting
more votes) to demonise the Government and it's very sensible and professionally hailed deficit reduction plan. It remains to be seen if thse massive
Job losses the Unions have been promising will happen ever appear and I doubt they will.
A recent report on unemployment showed that the losses in Public jobs was offset by job creation in the private sector, as predicted by the
Chancellor.
Millband and Balls, however, keep telling us these efforts won't work but offer
NTOHING as an alternative. It's easy to be in opposition.
