Theres nothing American about these problems since pretty much every developed country has them. Raising taxes to 100% won't even solve half of the deficit and debt problem...

More than anything people need to realize that WAR is the reason for our bloated Federal bureaucracy, which now accounts for over half of our GDP.
Military budgets are what needs to be cut (and Homeland Security).
This is nothing but the good old boy network of defense industry contractors running the show and starting wars all over the world so they can keep making bombs, planes and all the other million things that our military supposedly "needs" and then paying off the bankers loans to make all this crap.
We could spend 1/10th of what we do currently and still be able to defend ourselves, which after is all is supposed to be a citizen-army according to the Constitution.
It's nothing but a debt trap to keep us all in economic bondage.

Back when the Soviet Union broke up there was a time when we all thought "the cold war is over! now we'll have money to take care of the people and the infrastructure!".
No sooner had the "communist menace" disappeared than "Islamic extremist terrorism" came crashing in with the planes on 9/11. There goes our Peace Dividend! How convenient for those of a militant mindset.

That is a great article but I don't know that voting them out will change anything. It seems like as soon as we elect someone we think will do good gets in they start being corrupted by something or someone else behind the scenes. Who is it? - The bankers, the same ones who said back in '08 that the economy would "crash"if we didn;'t create a Trillion $ slush fund to bail them out.

Yes, it's Congress, the President and the Supreme Court that make things happen - at the whim of the big banks.

That was awesome! Totally awesome!

Thanks Angelicdefender2012.

Our politicians need to learn "The Captain's Rule". This applies to naval vessels whereby the Captain is ultimately responsible for EVERYTHING regardless of circumstances!

Oh, you were asleep and your first mate plows into a yacht? Guess what Captain? You're responsible for it.

You were having dinner when the ship went off course 25 degrees? Guess what Captain? You're responsible for it.

In our case we have a bunch of yahoos (for the most part) pontificating about the evils of the other side of the aisle and not taking any personal responsibility for the mess we are in even though so many of them have been serving for years now.

This reporter's final column was totally spot on. When, oh when will we get responsible governance back in this country??????????

Cheers!

Correction, I prayed for the HUMAN BEINGS recovery. I wish that the current political SYSTEM in our country would die, not the PEOPLE who run it.

There's a difference there that you need to recognize.

"Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. "

I believe you have just acknowledged and offered support for the big " Con "
The 545 are the problem or did you miss that part.

That is without a doubt one of the best things I have read in a while. I would like to meet this man and shake his hand. It's also a very sad article to read when you come to the realization of the current situation and how hard it would be to change this. Still, this just added a lot more fuel to the fire burning inside me, as I hope it did for all of you as well!

Pay it because those bastards have representation in every locality in the country - the police officers with badges and guns, and the judges which will lock you up and throw away the key. Its not just 535 - its an army of bureaucrats which take their marching orders from the 535.

Very well-spoken! I have an advanced degree in social welfare, and during my graduate courses was enlightened to a very small portion of how the system works. The tax thing, in particular: We are not just taxed, we are double-taxed. Taxed when we earn it, and also taxed when we spend it.

I see lots of posts in many topics with people asking "what are you going to do about it?" And that, my friends, is the real question. The more I think about things and watch how humanity behaves, the more I listen and learn, the more I question and doubt, to me it boils down to only a few things.

As a retired (read: disillusioned and burnt out former insider) professional helper and "change agent" turned philosopher, scholar, and writer, I encourage everyone to read a novel by American writer Taylor Caldwell:
CAPTAINS AND THE KINGS
It takes place during the mid 1800s, and describes the NWO and global shadow government clearly. It explains how our government works beautifully, in an easily-grasped, fast-moving tale that leaves all exposed. I am aware that the NWO is not a new idea, and that conspiracy theorists are often mocked.

But, as with any generation's reaching majority, it seems we have to re-invent these ideas over and over.
It is too late to just fire everybody. And anyone who would want to be one of the 545 has to be half mad as it is. I see anarchy, and REFUSAL to pay taxes as the only real way to get out from under it.
I foresee a future where barter is the norm, recompense is "in kind" and currency is rarely used. I have long thought of starting or joining a self-sustaining group of folks where every citizen has something to offer, and everyone looks out for everyone else's needs. It's not socialism, it's community.

The abhorrent gall of this country's (USA) behavior globally will - already has - spelled it's doom. What are we doing bombing others when our own countrymen are starving? Raping, robbing, torturing, and killing one another? I live in a medium-sized metro area, and every day there are murders within 25 miles, sometimes much closer - i.e. within blocks. And I am in a well-established, relatively quiet and very friendly working-class community outside the metro "proper". This frightens me.

If the govt would buckle down and Mind Our Own Business, instead of destroying other people's property and lives, and then spending fake dollars to rebuild the mess we made, touting "freedom" and "democracy"; if we said, "Okay, look. We have our own problems to solve, we simply can't run around the globe enforcing 'humanitarian rights' when our own people are being pushed into effective slavery, threatened with starvation, and victimized by (understandably) angry citizens-turned-psychopaths to support the comfort of the rich, and our own society is in a shambles."; if we all revolted the way the people in MENA are doing, would that help our cause?

Do we really need a federal government at all?

Well, I'm ranting, and just putting my thoughts out there.
I tried the non-profit world, in good faith, and found it - corrupt.
I tried the corporate world, in good faith, and found it - corrupt.

Would be happy to discuss both of those explorations and my discoveries from the inside, as a front-liner.

Meanwhile, I repeat: Read
Captains and the Kings, by Taylor Caldwell.
And then, look around you. It is possible to just ignore our government's nonsense, if we all do it together. They have the power because we GIVE THEM the power. Don't bother "firing" them, just ignore them. A quiet reorganization, below the radar, on a grand scale, would make all the difference.

Gotta go check on my seedlings....
Cheers!

I'm going to print this and post it on my fridge! This has such a ring of truth to it and I thank you for your find and sharing it here. Because of taxes we can never get ahead it seems, not in life or death. Sad.

Excellent thread. This is the realist talk I have ever heard!

Its a shame 99.99% of those 300 MLN people are stupid, and conditioned so well to turn the other cheek. I wish every American that said they were "Fed up" would actually do something already. Can you imagine a Revolution were Americans from all states round up there Congressmen and politicians for treason?? We can easily make examples out of them and change America for the better!

no...but giving the top 2% of the wealthiest, a 40 billion dollar a year tax break last year won't solve it either. america has now entered the gilded age of the fantastically wealthy few, and everybody else struggles. our economy is what mussiolini created in the 1930's in italy. an economy ran for, and benefitting the wealthiest people and corporations. the dictionary defines it as a facist government, not my opinion, historical fact.

Well written and to the point. If anyone doesn't agree with this, they're probably a politician! People who think politicians are on their side are fooling themselves. Every time they go into a voting booth and pull that lever for these incompetent fools, they're increasing hardship on themselves. What's sad is the average Joe will defend these sleaze balls and attack the average guy on the street trying to get health care for his family and a decent livable wage.

This is very true but like every other person that like's to tell "we the people "how screwed we are as Americans all this guy can say is "We should vote all of them out of office and clean up the mess",................and replace them with WHO sir??

When was the last time you remember a politician in office or running for office that once they were elected they became a part of the very thing they campaigned NOT to become.??????????

Solution;Term limits, remove all benafits and replace with the same we the people get,no pay hike without the vote of the people and NO benifits once they leave office because with term limits they won't be ther long enough to aquire them.Besides they are there to do the will of the people not for the perk's.................right?
Problem;we the people do not have the WILL to pursue this sort of agenda,we barly have the will to vote.

I don't consider killing a nine year old little girl and some other civilians taking out the trash. Do you?

Yes I agree, just saying, when 2 of the people we despise gets wacked off, everyone gets buttsore. I wish it never happened but. How many civis die from a bomb we drop made to target 1 guy?

Deebo

Even if you despise someone, generally speaking you don't wish them dead. Also, criticizing the war in the middle east is hardly comparable, as the military doesn't fight a uniformed enemy, and unfortunately sometimes they make mistakes, I still don't condone but i'm just making a point. This man saw innocent civilians and children and gunned them down. If you're shot down in the street, i'll hope you fully recover despite the fact that you are a close-minded and arrogant.

If our "AMAZING" government would stop printing money up the *** we probably wouldn't be taxed so much, but no, they are so full of themselves they just keep printing money. printing printing printing away, "don't worry we'll just keep taxing the people so we can print more money!"

The economy is soon to crash no doubt about that, we are in so much debt that it is going to get ugly when it does, I just hope a lot of people are prepared for it. IT WILL be very bad, I'm talking TAX GALORE!
