A cop from a Philly suburb responded to an assault call and arrested the suspect on the scene. Only problem; he crossed the border into another town to do it. When the local cops showed up, their chief wasn't happy and attacked the out-of-towner.

This all happened while the crime victim lay nearby, still being treated by paramedics.

The DA is considering charges against the police chief.

Cops Tussle With Cops On Camera

DARBY, Pa. - Bad blood spills over between cops in neighboring Delaware County towns, who are caught on camera in a cop-on-cop confrontation.

Last Friday afternoon a woman flagged down a police officer. She said a man had punched her friend a block away, knocking her to the ground. The police officer from Colwyn arrested the man as more officers arrived.

The first officer on scene had crossed the border from Colwyn into Darby, which is another jurisdiction. Minutes later, Darby's police chief showed up. The chief began arguing with the Colwyn officer, who was sitting in his patrol car behind the wheel.

On the video, you can hear other Darby officers trying to calm the chief down. But the argument escalates.

The chief shouts, "get out of Darby," as the Colwyn officer gets out of his patrol car and then has to be restrained.

All the while, the victim is still laying on the ground as emergency crews work on her.

There's a pretty long history of bad blood between these two towns.

Fox Philly

Makes you wonder why these cops are so defensive of their turf? You would think they should be thanking this guy for helping out and getting there so quickly. Without his quick response, the bad guy could have gotten away.

Maybe they're afraid he's trying to cut in on some of their graft money?

Here's the full, unedited video for those who have the time:

didn't know there were borders you couldn't cross to serve and protect.

apparently these cops have the same mentality as street gangs.

its sad really. cop was just doing his moral duty as an officer.

On the second video skip to 4:00 to begin the action.

Must be a quota thing.

You know, cops have to arrest, ticket, and harass a specific number of persons per day. Both parties must have been short on their daily quota. (sarcasm)

Maybe it differs from state to state. Here in NJ the departments can overlap borders & boundaries. The situation we are reading about in Philly is a damn shame. Adults are supposed to lead by example so younger people grow up right. It's even more important for authority figures like law enforcement, fire & rescue or ambulance medics to perform in a professional demeanor.

Looks like there are serious management problems in this area of PA. Who knows how long this problem has existed and how much longer it will allow to take place. I've seen documentaries broadcast on TV about dsyfunctional and corrupt police departments. After the bodies are piling up on the streets and more people are afraid of the local law than they are of the hoodlums, then finally Uncle Sam sends in more goons with guns to fire or prosecute the chosen few.

It looks like a simple confrontation on the surface but it brings up a serious issue.

How do you feel about cops from one town arresting someone in a different town?

I don't like it one bit. I believe that cops should stick to their respective "turfs" because people pay taxes for those cops to protect them exclusively and not the people in the neighboring town!

Only in America!

is police work about serving and protecting, or who can raise the most revenue?
power tripping cops = problems.

The thing here is, in PA we have these tiny little municipalities called Boroughs. You can't walk all the way down a street without ending up in the next Borough.

Check out how tiny these places are and try to imagine being a cop and not driving outside your municipality in one of these places.

Darby, Pennsylvania

Land area: 0.82 square miles.
Population density: 12213 people per square mile (very high).

Darby, Pa

Colwyn, Pennsylvania

Land area: 0.26 square miles.
Population density: 9424 people per square mile (high).

Colwyn, Pa

Talk about a waste of resources. The only reason they don't want to consolidate these municipalities is because people are afraid of loosing local control. Imagine all the political patronage jobs that would be lost.
