TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) - Soldiers will begin distributing radiation sickness pills in cities near Israel's two nuclear reactors next month, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz informed the Cabinet of the project at a session on Sunday, the ministry said.

Distribution of the pills is to begin Aug. 8 in Dimona and Yavne, according to a report in Bamahane, a weekly publication for soldiers.

Seems to be more out of fear of an attack on the reactors rather than of a nucleat blast.

They are probably refering to potasium iodine tables (aka nukepills). You can get them over the net and in the case of a problem in the US, they would be distributed here as well.

The pills, known as Logol, will be distributed in Dimona and Yerocham, which are near the Negev Nuclear Research Institute, and to residents of Yavne, near the Nahal Sorek nuclear plant.

Security sources emphasized that the decision does not reflect a change in the risk level. �Internationally, and in Israel, too, the odds of an accident in a reactor are one out of ten million. However, we want citizens to be prepared�.

How in the world the UN and US allowed Israel to have nuclear plants knowing very well the situations with The Palestinian, this people don't give a thought about the repercussions of some crazy human bomb going into one of these nuclear sites and blowing itself up.

This will not only hurt Israel but the sounding countries too, and not pill will take care of all the side effects either.

I wonder about this world we live in now a days.

Dimona - built 1958 - is located in the Negev Desert.
Safe place. No Islamist will reach it

Ofek 5 (Israel's eye in the sky), IDF and IAF are taking care.

i agree, i don't understand why we back Israel the way we do. They are the reason so many people in the middle east hate America. We need to drop Israel like a bad habit but if we are going to back Israel we need to stop saying we are fighting all terrorism. Terrorism is ripping that country apart and it WILL effect America for years to come.
