Nuclear Evacuation Zones,interactive map

I'm posting this as an FYI. An interactive U.S. map that is good to have bookmarked..

U.S. emergency-response plans call for only evacuating residents within a 10-mile radius of a nuclear disaster. However, last week, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission recommended that Americans within 50 miles of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant evacuate. If something like this happens to the united states, i'd assume everyone would be heading west.

I live within 75 miles of 5 Nuclear reactors. W/I 50 miles of 3 Nuclear Reactors and w/i 10 miles of one Nuclear Reactor. Maybe I should think about moving....

last week. seems they read
my mind.

as far as my location. I am outside
the 50 mile radius of any nuclear
reactor, which is a good thing.
however, I still think the winds
will be more of a problem
though. winds are not accounted for
in this link. and rightly so,
if winds were accounted for,
there would be no safe zones.

another observation I noticed.
Military bases around me here
in NC are NOT within these danger
zones. Proper planning of the
locations of the reactors by
the military I assume.

Ft. Bragg
Pope Air Base
Myrtle Beach Air Base
Camp Lejune

all seem to be safe from a hot zone.
hmmmm

Interesting to know. I didn't think that I would be just outside of an evacuation area. I think I would still get outta town!

I may be reading it wrong, but it looks like Pope and Bragg are within the 50 mile radius of one of the nuke plants..

the bulleyes are 10 - 50 mile evacuation radius ?

Bumping this back up and think it would be a goodtime to think in terms of being as far away from a facility. Being west of one is second best and I would not trust the 50 mile radius, try a bit further...

The one in Michigan Big Rock point has been dismanteled several years ago. Nothing left but a marker

Yep, I've noticed these aren't all that up to date, regardless of site. There's one 60 miles from us, but it's been closed down for a while. From research so far, no chance of it creating a problem.
