I can't believe the people in this video aren't getting the hell out of there. It looks like its just floating on water, this can't be a good sign for Japan. Almost 1000 quakes since 3/11/11, I think the island might be slowly sinking along with the Eurasia plate. Thoughts? Opinions?

dont worry mate everything is OK.

Japan is vulnerable because it sits on top of the intersection of the Pacific Plate and at least three others

key word On top. It wont sink.

Japan is vulnerable because it sits on top of the intersection of the Pacific Plate and at least three others – the Eurasian Plate, a sub plate and the Philippine Plate. Geologists aren’t exactly sure how many plates and sub plates are in the area, but they are all colliding and grinding against each other. In fact, Japan was created millions of years ago by all of this plate shifting.

Could this be a shattered water pipe by using simple logic? Only the sidewalk is moving.

If you look at the pavement you can tell it is just a thin layer of payment. The flooding caused the water to enter beneath the pavement making an effect like this. It is not a phenomena, it's just that Japan had a Tsunami and the water went under the pavement.

This is what I was thinking. While most of the water receded, I'm sure a lot of it soaked into the ground, got in between cracks in the pavement, etc., etc.

That's not ground liquification.

This is ground liquification.

this used to be part of Tokyo Bay

And if you ment to say ground liquefaction
then neither of these videos qualify in the least.
For that we have to go to Christchurch back in 2010.

I dont see much liquification going on besides what looks like water that was already there but very interesting footage of ground movement and sinking.

It's happening in sections of the country that are reclaimed land. The whole island isn't going to sink, but some parts which were ocean filled in with sand and land, may very well
