WBC Protesting in my town

The story is told that this protest is taking place because at the last military protest, the vehicle tires of the protesters were cut; and now, having a vendetta against Oklahoma, they have vowed to protest any child's funeral in Oklahoma. Shane Reed, who died in a motorcycle accident Sunday, is only 20.

The funeral being protested is a friend of my family. He was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.
The ignorant folks from Westboro Baptist church are here in my town right now protesting his funeral. The Good news is MANY fine citizens of Bixby are there right now in support of the family and countering the WBC protests.

I guess because of what happened to them in McAlester, Ok (Tires slashed) awhile back while they protested a soldier's funeral. They are now seeking revenge on Oklahoma. They now claim "God Hates Oklahoma" ..

My brothers are at the funeral right now, and I might add some pics of the huge amount of anti protesters later.

I thought they were from Oklahoma? Where are these guys from, and what does a random motorcycle accident have to do with anything? Are they going to protest every funeral now? Cancer, heartattack, etc.? God must hate everyone, because everyone eventually dies.

These guys are idiots.

ETA:
Oh, they are from Kansas, right next door. I wish I still lived in Joplin, and I could drive up for this one. A guy was just convicted in Florida for having a seizure at the wheel and ploying into a festival and killing a few people, I wonder if they could get him out and give him a job driving a city bus for the morning of the protest?

First and foremost -- I am truly sorry for your loss.

This isn't really a good sign in my opinion. It seems that, although I didn't support their reasons for the first protest, at least they had reasons. Now, in light of this, it seems this group is willing to stir up trouble just for the sake of doing so.

It's fringe groups like these that give all religions a bad name in my opinion.

Yes, They are from Kansas. The 20 year old kid who died is from Bixby. My family are friends with his family. I hate to see his family have to deal with the WBC idiots.

I guess any death in Oklahoma, is fair game for their agenda now.

My bro should have some video later of an enormous amount of Bikers there in support of the family. The WBC was definitely outnumbered!

Thanks lpowell

I didn't really know Shane and his twin brother Shawn very well. I am quite a bit older than they are. My Mom works with their mom and is pretty good friends and I use to rent from their grandpa.

Yes, it seems that any death is fair game for them. Very sick and twisted people.

Sorry for your loss (even if its primarily your families). I worry about my dad and his biker buddies every time they go out for a ride.

I hope nobody accidentally parks their car on top of those scum sucking maggots.

These people make it really hard to love your fellow man. I'm surprised they aren't in politics.

My sympathies for you and the family having to deal with these idiots. If you do acquire pictures of the anti-protesters, please upload and show! I'd love to see them, and I'm sure plenty of others would as well.

^ I remember reading some interview or something with that lady from WBC... She was talking about how we need to stop sinning so we don't go to hell, and then goes on to say right after that that God has a predetermined fate for all of us; it doesn't matter what we do, most of us are going to hell regardless, maybe even her. But of course she saw possible signs from God suggesting that she won't go to hell.
Bunch of lunatics.

I wonder how their tires being slashed makes them feel. Afterall God wanted their tires slashed.

Yeah, really. If something bad happens and innocent children burn up in a house fire, it' God's will... But if something bad happens to them and their tires get slashed, the entire state of Oklahoma is now homosexual and shall face the wrath of God.

This is what the Phelps want... people discussing them. What they want more is for people to accost them in any way, shape, or form. They push peoples buttons and then sue when people react. This funds their campaign or bigotry and hatred. The more they hate, the more we react, the more press and money they get to hate even more.

IMO they aren't even really religious. They are just bottom feeding lawsuit addicts who use religion as a tool to provoke others.

There should be a gang of bikers on Harleys riding back and forth within FEET from the WBC protesters the entire time they are on or near public property protesting. No violence, no law broken, just fat Harley mufflers blasting their ear drums as they ride back and forth, back and forth. I doubt they would like that, but they'd probably just go get ear plugs...

Can't stop 'em? Drown 'em out with uncomfortable, nerve-racking inconvenience until they go home.

Sorry for the loss of your family friend.

Here is a pic my bro took of the anti protesters.

I tried to upload to Ats but was having problems with password for some reason.

WBC Anti-Protesters

Glad to see so much support for the family. I guess the WBC made it out of this one without more tires being slashed or worse. Sounds like everyone kept their cool, which is good, as much as I dislike them.

I did consider not bringing this topic up for that very reason, but decided to anyways due to the support the family has received from our town. I found it really inspiring how everyone banded together against these leeches.

Thanks and I guess that is what happened sort of!

From a friend's facebook page a few minutes ago:

I want to thank EVERYONE that came out today in support of the family. I have received some counts from people that we had 82 bikes with over 112 riders and passengers. In addition to that tons of people showed up and lined the street. The estimate was in excess of 300. I have visited with a member of the family and they were all very touched at the showing of support.

112 riders and passengers, and 300 people total!

Sounds like the WBC were escorted to the state line and left before the funeral. According to the same FB post from my friend.

Here is some video of the many bike riders who showed up today in support of the family. Such an amazing site to see and the family of Shane were very touched.

Take that Westboro!
