CAMDEN, NJ -- Mayor Dana Redd yesterday revealed a plan to rehire 50 of the 167 cops laid off in January -- in a city where crime has since spiked.

The state government is providing $2.5 million to bring back the cops and 15 of 68 laid-off firefighters through June 30, the mayor said, adding that she expects to adopt a city budget, effective July 1, that will make the rehires permanent.

"It's time for all of us to assert leadership and work together on a new approach to combine and maximize public-safety resources, eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies, and provide a long-term solution," Christie said in a statement.

Well, it didnt take too long for the government to say "okay, we actually need these people." I think it was a month or 2 ago when Camden cut half of its police force. Since then, crime has spiked.

Just thought this would be something interesting to post.

They should pass a mandatory gun carrying law like one city did...

It is proven to lower crime statistics.... especially in prevention....
