13 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in California Wearing U.S. Marine Uniforms

Border Patrol agents recently arrested 13 illegal immigrants disguised as U.S. Marines and riding in a fake military van, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday.
The illegal immigrants were clad in Marine uniforms when they were apprehended at the Campo Border Patrol Westbound I-8 checkpoint at 11 p.m. on March 14 near Pine Valley, Calif., border officials said. Two U.S. citizens in the van also were arrested.

Great.

Now if you see a group of American servicemen or women do we need to be suspicious of them, too? How many have already crossed over like this? What if you see them armed with M-16's, how would you know they aren't really U.S. military personnel?

These were all caught with the name "Perez" on their uniforms, so we'll have to make sure they're different names from now on. Of course, the smugglers will no doubt also make sure the names are different from now on, too.

I used to work in an Army Surplus store in south Texas and they sold uniforms of all of the military. We even sold all of the patches and ribbons to anyone. No credentials were even needed for that. I HATED it. Many mexicans would come and buy the patches that said "special forces, airborne, recon, etc.". You could literally walk in that store and buy a whole set and walk out looking exactly like a servicemember.
They even sold helmets(sold by people who got out) and all levels of bullet proof vests.

It's so sad.

hmmmm.....if I wanted to do something nefarious under the guise of being with the US military and have a few guys who are good for not asking questions carry it out, seems that this would be a good way to do it. this is the stuff false flags are made of.

Well realistically, due to the extreme influence and power of many of these drug cartels and gangs, we DO need to be very cautious about situations like this. These people are very violent and crafty; their livelihoods are made by breaking the law and getting away with it. I wouldn't put it past anyone to dress some "soldiers" so to say up in uniforms for the sake of attempting some sort of massacre of police or military forces just simply to prove a point. With the cartels and gangs, we can't afford to be lenient on security. I know many people won't like hearing this, but leniency with security in this case will inevitably lead to alot of death and destruction.

What about it - English is not an official language of the USA....

Alternatively...couldn't...or....WOULDN'T?? A supersecret covert unit posing as illegal immigrants disguised as US Marines kept their cover under the most severe provocation .....

and, last and least, HTF do you know that anyone in a given uniform is entitled to wear it??

A couple of items not included in the Fox article but from the LA Times, is that all but three of the illegal immigrants have been returned to Mexico, and the matter is under investigation by the N.C.I.S.

Three of the illegal immigrants were detained as witnesses, while the rest were returned to Mexico, officials said. The van drew suspicion in part because it had an altered U.S. Government license plate, authorities said. The investigation is being conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Since most of our illegal criminals have previous arrests and deporatations and come right back again, so will these guys. Until our existing laws are enforced, there is nothing that will change. We have lost thousands of lives already to illegals.

My stepson is in the Army now, and when visiting him, I was amazed at the number of people that it was obvious that English was their 2nd language there were on the bases.

But then they all had different name patches on ...

Obviously I don't think it's nice to impersonate servicemen, but those of us who are not old enough (or are not inclined to do so for other reasons) to join the services still find some of the stuff you can buy in surplus stores to be pretty cool, even if it is something as small as buying a beret or hat from a historically interesting era in military history.

That being said, I just like going to surplus stores to check the gear out sometimes. Always makes me want to join up (and man, once I've finished this degree I shall).

Shouldn't be too surprising. I'm not sure what the regulations are, but I know that you can enlist if you are a green-card holder (I know that that's a pretty legitimate document and status to have, but still). They can actually fast-track you to citizenship if you enlist actually, if I recall correctly.

I totally understand and I(being a female) love going to surplus stores and buying and looking at lots of knick knacks there.

But at the same time, I really don't have business buying ribbons and medals unless I have credentials. Even if I wanted to buy some for my grandpa who was a WWII vet, I should still be responsible for bringing in his form with a list of them.

I love the fact that vets and paintballers can go buy bdu's,acu's, cammies, etc. But I just think that selling ribbons, medals, and certain gear like bullet proof vests that no regular civilian shouldn't have, is just wrong.

A bulletproof vest should be no big thng in a country which has Concealed carry laws etc.....
If i can have a gun, then you can have one too so sooner or later somebody will try to take a pot shot.Wearing a vest is a defensive move noit aggressive.There are some places i wouldnt go without
That being said,and back to the dummy marines, it is a common way to US citizenship doing a hitch.
The army always needs grunts, and you dont have to speak perfect english to be hip enough to shoot back when fired upon.
Not only that, but these immigrant soldiers are eager to please..
