Hi there, Drums. Thanks for posting this, I have been watching the other threads as well that have list after list of items to put in BOBs.....and I was starting to think that perhaps my way of thinking was skewed as I always thought the purpose of the BOB was to just have the bare essentials covered should the need arise to take to foot and light enough as to not tax you along the hike.

It's about time to go through our BOBs to make sure everything is in working order and still in good shape anyway (do this every 3 months or so) so your list is timely and will help to make sure all the "C"s are covered! Thanks again.

What I do to keep my bag in check is I go out about once a month and test and try my gear.
This winter I did 5 trips...being I am Canadian they were very cold trips to say the least.
In my opinion the best way to keep your bag and gear in check is to go out and try it out in a real setting.
The reason I have this opinion is by being idealistic only to have nature slap me around.
A lesson lived is a lesson learned so I lost nothing in the end.

I love the C's essentials.Brilliantly thought.
But remember you're not carrying a portable home.
It's a bag that'll help you for a short time.

Cuffs
Colt .45 (never leave home without it!)
Camouflage (gotta stay hidden)
Can opener
Crampons
Cork pieces (good for makeshift compass, or bobber)
Cold medicine
Crayons (for map, and direction marking duh!)
Cold packs
Cod liver oil (huge benefits)

what?? im not leaving her behind and the condoms have many uses in a survival situation(water/food storage, some can be used to make slingshots.. just get lubeless or the water/food will be nasty ) you guys are dirty.. i no what you were thinking at first

When looking at your list of the 9 c's of survival.. am curious to what do you mean by combustibles? Was wondering if you could explain a bit if you don't mind? if packing a knap sack for example, how or what you you pack in it? Appreciate your knowledge

Combustibles are anything that starts fire.
It can be a lighter,matches,magnesium stick,fire steel etc etc.
