An investigation of the Times Square pipe bombing has NYPD investigating one of their own. Although, Joseph Rodriguez, has not been charged, police believe he planted the bomb after he finished his shift at the transit bureau.

Cops are now searching for clues in the apartment of one of their own that is the cop injured when it exploded.

Early Thursday morning, detectives and investigators left Joseph Rodriguez's apartment. They had been on the scene for more than eight hours. Investigators pulled out bags of evidence out of his apartment including several pieces of computer equipment. They hoped to find clues to solve the pipe bomb mystery in the subway.

Executing a search warrant, NYPD detectives and federal agents want to know what's inside transit cop Joseph Rodriguez's little Italy apartment. They also searched his car.

It appears this officer has had a history of mental problems, in this article it says he concealed a stint in a mental ward before joining the force. I hope this man gets the help he needs.

'Bomb' cop's psych history

Joseph Rodriguez concealed a stint in a mental ward before joining the Police Department, police sources told the Daily News yesterday.

The source told The News that Rodriguez's mental health history came to light only as he was being investigated for allegedly planting a homemade pipe bomb Monday in a Times Square subway station.

"Before this guy even got on the job, he was in a straitjacket," the source said. "How that slipped through the cracks, no one knows."

Hate to say it but, i told you so.
From the beginning that's what it looked like, that he planted the bomb to be hailed as a hero.

Hate to say it, but we are lucky. Look how easy it happened. That is not something to be taken lightly. Crowded subway on a weekenight in the middle of NY. This means anyone carrying a backpack could walk in and...bang. There is no reassurance in the fact that it may have been a 'mentally challenged' officer. The thought of someone we write off as crazy was able to detonate a bomb to begin with in amazing in itself. There should be a NG in every entry and exit to the subways.

Hope he gets some therapy....
