Poison control centers reports of sickness from
Potassium Iodide

As demand spikes for potassium iodide in the wake of Japan’s nuclear crisis, U.S. poison control centers are starting to receive reports of illness in people who’ve ingested the drug aimed at protecting against radiation sickness.

At least seven people have reported reactions to the drug, often called by its chemical name, KI, including two who said they were suffering from serious symptoms including vomiting, racing heart and dizziness or vertigo.

That’s according to Jessica Wehrman, a spokeswoman for the American Association of Poison Control Centers, which tracks reports from 57 poison control centers nationwide.

www.msnbc.msn.com...

well I was kind of expecting this, sorry to say.
With the drug being the most sought after agent
in recent history, it was only a matter of time
before some folks used it in the wrong manner.

This is the main reason why KI sales has been
hampered by the gubment through pharmacies
to prevent some morons from overdosing on
the stuff. Though rational thought seems to
escape some folks when confronted with
a possible emergency.

Folks, while it is a good idea to be prepared for
an emergency, it is NOT however a good idea
to ingest this drug without the need for it.

However, there have been no reports of death yet,
taking this can make you very ill.

PLEASE use as directed, NOT when YOU think you
need it.

Isn't this what Obama basically said?

And I believe the general consensus was very negative towards what he said too...

Just sayin!

It would be interesting to know what dosages people were taking to cause these symptoms. Did these people take the 130 milligram KI or the Kelp supplements which are between 150-400 micro grams? I wish this article said a little bit more about where these reports came from but then again it is mainstream media, cant expect too much right?

I don't know that much about this pill, so I sure wouldn't take one without researching first. I always thought by using Iodized salt (which we always have) gave you enough. I personally don't use a lot of salt though.

here is a related story to overdosing on
Potassium Iodide.

The fallout cloud is over Nebraska, Kansas and the Dakotas right now.

I have been following it at EPA.GOV all night. It is moving East slowly. There is a thread here at ATS detailing some of the following and disproving the naysayers.

Just letting you know half the nation has been exposed to levels which the EPA meters gauged as 250cpm to 300cpm. Amarillo Tx was like 325 for a very short period earlier as well. It's only slowly coming back down now as the main bulk of the "fallout wave" passes.

It's a directly north to south shaped wave, moving from west coast to east coast. If this theory holds up, predictions are that next Illinios/Ohio/Missouri/ etc is next. Stay inside folks.

People will tell you this craps not dangerous. If you believe that your in total denial of reality. It's radioactive fallout from a nuclear power plant accident. Even a tiny little bit is TOO MUCH IMHO.

Oh well, people who took the KI and got sick that's normal. When a million people take a pill, you have to expect dozens of allergic reactions, or other rare types of adverse reactions.

I am just surprised anyone took the pills at all. I was thinking the whole world was in complete denial about this since Obama said "its safe", like you should really trust him, and since the Media is totally ignoring it 100% like it never happened.

Just go to EPA . Gov and look around a bit. The proof is there. Also check the thread on ATS that has all the screenshots and stuff. Good luck, don't forget to take a good shower.

Personally my family and myself will not be taking KI during this fallout. We will take other precautions and get our KI from natural food sources. I consider that a better route. But that's me, I'm not big on pharmaceuticals that don't really protect me that well anyways.

If it developed into a very severe iodine 131 issue, i would consider taking a KI pill very seriously. But at this point I am not too worried about that. I am just aiming for shelter.

well IMO, Obama does have a credibility problem.
A lot of folks just don't trust him nor what he says.
Maybe, it's just a conditioned response that we've
been lied to before many times, why would he tell
us the truth now.

Sometimes, I think regular folks would believe
a regular joe or a scientitst or a doctor MORE
than they would a politician. A politician has
already been stereo-typed as a liar. just saying

very good question!!! from what I read
I don't think a dosage was mentioned.
And without further clarification from the
article, we can only speculate.

I bet someone on ATS read one of your scaremongering posts/threads and decided to stock up.

Either that or they listened to the MoronStreet Media. I'll bet on the latter.

maybe I'm wrong but I do not remember
a drug causing so much ruckess in the
media since the Tylenol Scare of 1982
that killed several people.

en.wikipedia.org...

Sweeping changes in drug distribution came
out of that one, like safety caps and sealed
bottles. Maybe they have in mind some sweeping
changes for Potassium Iodide or similar.

well u do have a point there.
I would say the majority of ATS
threads on this subject have been
somewhat cautious, a "be prepared
but not stupid" analogy.

well since the majority of them
don't even know it's fake, it's
safe to assume we won't know
either.
