Rich, financially secure,
Wealthy, born into an inheritance, born with not need to ever work, old money financial ties to big corporations, the white corporate America.
Sorry made a mistake I should have said wealthy not rich, anybody can be rich, but to be wealthy you have to be born in it.

So, by that reasoning, if I work hard and make a fortune and then leave it to my kids, you would have that make them ineligable for public office? I don't usually say things like this, but that is about the most ill-considered and just plain stupid thing I've heard in a long time. I think you don't like the rich people because you aren't one.

No, I'm certainly not rich or wealthy, but I don't blame those that are for my own success or failure.

Like I said, you have bought the democrats' class warfare dogma, hook, line, and sinker. Why not just call yourself a socialist? Socialism is what you are advocating with this absurd idea. Reward the poor for failure and penalize the rich for being successful.

Screw that. These wealthy people you apparently dispise are every bit as American as you or I are, and here you go wanting to take away their rights. Left wing thinking at it's finest.

I'll keep my eyes open.

Thanks for the reading references. Digital Aboriginal looks very interesting indeed. I will add it to my long reading list.

I don't know if you read french but there may be an english version of a book called "Simplicite Volontaire" by Serge Mongeau. The title translates to "Voluntary Simplicity". There are many books on the topic. This is the kind of personal approach to consumerist society that I adopt within reasonable limits.

First of all You are picking a fight today, but I assure you not with me, find somebody else to call names, and am giving you a warning on that.

Second I have nothing against money I love it myself, but the reality of the issue is that our political leaders are back up by big wealthy corporations and that is a fact.

Bush and the oil companies

Cheney and Halliburton

Kerry and his wife ketchup empire

So as you see only the powerful and money influenced can run this nation, now a day.Surely you are not running and I definitely been a Jane Doe can't either. So who is running the nation? Only the few privileage.

I'll get that book.. thanks! Looking at the contents page it seems to be thinking along the same lines as I am. It'll do me good to brush up on my French a little bit too!

I also think there's a way we can start to move towards such a system, without causing the kind of social upheavals that cause people with interests to resist such changes. It won't be fast, but hopefully it will become self perpetuating as every group, whether rich or poor, begins to see the advantages..I'm convinced there is a way, and hat's basically what I'm trying to figure out.

The Dumbing Down of America. It's more of a long-term fix than short-term, but it's all about fundamentals.

This Post is about change and how to get our country back, right?
THen lets talk about that, getting our country back. You may not be able to take the wind from the sails of our government spending or sway the opinions of voters en mass, just yet or bring forward petitions before our gov't(MM film was good point) right now. but,

1.Stop shoppoing at Wal-Mart, and stop by your local market and support small business.
2. Use Solar energy, and quit supporting major power companies. Use natural gas applicances.
3. Recycle and reuse what you don't need.
The list goes on and on, just start becoming less dependant on your 'country'.

trust me, I am not a green freak, nor am I poor and I voted for Bush in 2004. But just because I voted for him does not mean i have to support the establishment.
get rid of your cable TV and play a board game or read a book or invite people over for groups discussion. Socitey as a whole has been seperated from each other
. Excercise, have more sex with your wife, do anything other than support American big business if you want to try to make a difference. Those that complain the most want to load the petitions in their Suburban and drive them to Washington, in the process, buying more oil. That is so hypocritical.

We cannot call to arms and have a revolution, but what you can try is to take away from them what they control..us. Don't let them sway us with high gas prices, buy a Prius. So what if it doesn't look cool or not as big as an H2, it gets you from point A to B for less.

Run for a local office and try to change your own community. JOin the PTA and help the kids. give them the knowledge you have so maybe they can be as informed as you and make a difference one day. THere are no short term solutions...

(but if we plan for the long run maybe we can make a canidate against HIllary and Jeb in 2008 :lol

Hmmmm. I'm not sure where I have called you a "name". I guess it's ok to say the most infantile, childish, crap about our President but when someone attacks, not you, but your ideas, you have to take it personally. Very well. The truth is, I don't know you. I only know what you have written on this board. If you don't want your ideas and words critiqued and judged by others who might disagree with you, then maybe you shouldn't put them out here.

Please point out any nation at any time period on this planet where your above statement is not true. Give an example of when and where it has ever been any different.

This has to do with changing everybody's fundamental reasoning.
This takes effort from everybody, these days people are looking for others to think for them, it's a lazy society, created by the ones with power.

It takes motivation to change your consciousness, if everyone can agree on that then this is the first step.

Media will never change unless there is a new way to get news to people and once they see that people are paying attention to the other souce of information they will follow, but I wouldn't turn back to them because they have decieved us in the past and they will do it again once we start tuning into them...

We need to start taking iniative for ourselves,

Maybe start a nation wide magazine or newspaper. No broadcasting corp will air the kinds of info we want. We want the truth no station provides this.

We need a people's corporation if they are going to defeat us via media brainwashing, we need to beat them at their own game.

If we don't tune into tv media news eventually they must evolve or go away.

We as a society need to evolve consciously, we need to get together and support eachother and if we form a people's corporation we could end up on top instead of the bottom.

Kind of like the movie changing places....

if we could start a national magazine we all subscribe to it turn it into a corporation buy stocks in it, all of ATSers will own a piece of the pie, and more and more people will tune in and hopefully wake up!!!

I think we will see another civil war, this time it will be about human rights.

I also predict one here in Europe if it unites.

As for the timeframe I'd say it will not be in my lifetime so +/-50 years.

Im am going to be more specific now about getting our country back vague answers from my part has prompted some unsatisfactory responses.

Here I go.

To fight for our liberties we have to organized, we the people obviously can not trust anymore our elected members to talk for us.

During the 60s, the civil rights and antiwar campaigns make an impact, just like Truelies said using the news papers and some media will work. There are already a large number of groups that can and should form an organizing and educational network to put ads in newspapers and on radio and television, town meetings and University campuses are a good place to spread the dissatisfaction of this country against the tampering of our constitution rights, I recently when to my daughter University and been a 33,000 students I noticed all kind of groups doing peaceful protects and it was a far cry of the seventies when I was in College, I remember a protest back in 79 in wish the dorms got gas, because the students were burning towels and sheets and throwing them over the window. Now that was radical.

We the people of this country has forgotten that we hold the power and in the past has work, remember the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other legislation that hardly seemed possible until these Americans fully exercised their constitutional rights to move the government to justice.

We have in this country many groups that peacefully will fight for the right of the people of this country if asked, and this are some, these groups come from across the political spectrum. Among them: the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee; American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees; Amnesty International USA; Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs; Center for Constitutional Rights; Free Congress Foundation; Gun Owners of America; Leadership Conference on Civil Rights; NAACP Board of Directors; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; National Council of Churches of Christ.
And: National Council of La Raza, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, National Lawyers Guild, National Native American Bar Association, NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund, Physicians for Human Rights, Rutherford Institute.
Let understand that the patriot act will give the government power to disrupt any activities that we the people engage in protest in the name of terrorism.
People in deed we are loosing our rights in this country. This country is reaching a desperation point in wish every citizen will not be able to say no more.

Good post LDP! The only way to bring on change is to exercise your vote and elect politicians that have your interests at heart. You can also act locally to protest issues that you may not agree with. Its the only way to do it in a democratic country. You need to dig deep when deciding on a candidate, dont simply go by what you see on television.

It is infinitely more productive to overtake the kingdom from inside the castle walls than from outside.

interesting topic...interesting responses (at least some of them)
some how, real info must get to the sheeples. the mainstream media is a joke...they wouldn't know how to dig up the truth even if it was in their cereal bowl. how can sheeple make any informed desicions with info that is being filtered by those that do not want the truth to get out. ATS is a begining but far from enough.

if true info can not be given to the sheeples.....should it be forcably taken form those who have the power and shown to the sheeples?????
info is the key and that is what is being controlled.
how do the 1st American revolution gain momuntum??? where peoples info much less filtered??? i don't know but, info is the key.

barring that.......................................................sometimes the tree of liberty needs to be watered...............
