I thought there was a no fly zone. Question is who shot it down?? news.sky.com... s=World_News_Carousel_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15955468_Video%2C_Libya%3A_Explosions_Heard_In_Benghazi_Following_Warnings_From_Obama%2C_Cameron

A military aircraft has caught on fire and crashed in Benghazi, as reports of successive air strikes on the rebel-held Libyan town emerge. The warplane, which appeared to be a Libyan government aircraft, came down after the imposition of a UN no-fly zone.

Multiple explosions could be heard from the centre of the city before the flaming plane crashed.

The pilot was seen to eject moments before a large plume of black smoke rose above Benghazi's southern skyline.

The still pic is from sky news and probably not from the video. There is another on the page showing the impact explosion. I am amazed gaddafi has the gaul to put up inferior fighter jets as I'm guessing this was not the rebels that shot the plane down but most likely coming from that french destroyer in the med.

what happens when they find out the rebels have their own no fly zone? or when the pilot is found. im hoping good things for him. even when spies were sent in to help get the psycho out they captured them, knowing their revolution would be hijacked

so many dominoes...

The rebel have a lot of Technicals with antiaircraft guns mounted on them.
en.wikipedia.org...

All it takes is one Golden BB from one of these Technicals to bring down a modern jet.

It is a MiG-23 Flogger as used by the Libyan Air Force.

The rebels are quite capable of downing such aircraft by themselves. They have proved that over the past weeks. If it was a Coalition action (ie from naval surface to air missile, you would be seeing a statement, press conference. Until the No Fly Zone is implemented and set up you won't see such SAMs being used.

Something strange is going on.... there seems to be a delay of "international" (bankster globalists UN) forces. Hopefully there's some dissonance among the ranks. Maybe some in those ranks don’t like being ordered around by the UN puppet and illegal alien Barry Soetoro to start another illegal and unconstitutional war.

On Saturday, rebels shot down a warplane that was seen bombing the outskirts of the key rebel-held city of Benghazi, sending up a massive black cloud of smoke. An Associated Press reporter saw the plane go down in flames and heard the sound of artillery and crackling gunfire in the distance

You are living in a fantasy world. Those nations signing up to enforce the No Fly Zone are sending assets. Here in the UK Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornets have transited through the UK last night. It takes time to get all assets in place.

And you get your CF-18 Hornets out and continue illegally and indiscriminately blowing people to pieces.

You need to brush up your aircraft recognition. The footage clearly shows a MiG-23 Flogger.

Check out the plan view of the aircraft coming down with the MiG-23 featured in the following webpage. The variable geometry wings on the Libyan plane are in one of the forward sweep positions.

military-photo.blogspot.com...

New video footage has also been released showing close up of the aircraft over Bengazhi.

I think you're confused. Isn't in Gaddafi and his army of mercenaries "illegally and indiscriminately blowing people to pieces"?

Same bleeding heart left-wing nonsense. If the West does nothing to protect people being butchered, we don't care, but if we intervene we're evil imperialists doing some bankers bidding.

Can't win, can we?

Face it, the guy is a turd and needs to go. This latest attack on Benghazi (and reports say Gaddafi's tanks have been seen there) is a blatant disregard for the UNSC resolution and also against his own declaration of a ceasefire yesterday.

Indeedy.

At first I thought it was an Su-22, but it does indeed look like the MiG-23.

EDIT: Also, the Libyans don't have any MiG-25's apparently....
