An Interesting Image (winged disc)

To answer the question as to whether the window was up, yes it was. Here is another image that was snapped moments before:

Notice the "winged disc" is over the photographer's (one of my friends) thumb and there is no "UFO fleet"?

Definitely a lens flair.
