Libya declares cease-fire and says it will stop military operations as the West mobilizes

ca.news.yahoo.com

TRIPOLI, Libya - Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa says Libya is declaring an immediate cease-fire and stopping all military operations.

Friday's decision comes after the U.N. voted to authorized a no-fly zone and "all necessary measures" to protect the Libyan people, including airstrikes.

Appear it's all bullying and talk in the playground, however when Priciple NATO comes to the yard all bets are off.

GLAD this resolution was passed without going into full effect. This, in the future, I believe will changed UN's idealogy towards a no-fly-zone, going about a "resolution" almost immediately. However, this may not be a good thing.

Let's see if both sides keep their end of the bargain.

I know it's probably for the better that he called a cease fire, but what a COWARD! I don't think it should end here. He used his own military and munitions against his own people, and now he thinks everything is A OK because he finally called a cease fire because he's been called out.

So now they must be tried for war crimes.

This is not breaking news. This was sometime last night GMT +1. France and Nato said today they will be going in with airstrikes. That's after Gaddafi told of the cease fire. Basically the NWO controlled Western NATO forces want the war with Libya regardless!!

you do know those people that were his own, were running around with ak's and rocket propelled grenades, plus torturing those who supported gaddafi.
im not saying he is a good guy here but its not as if he was doing it for a laugh, he was trying to defeat rebel forcesa, not peaceful protesters.

NATO was going in with airstrikes BEFORE this was announced. Plus this was just announced by Libya's Foreign Minister so it is now official not speculated as it was late last night. Its breaking across all major news outlets right now. THERE WILL BE NO ATTACK-SORRY!!!

Yes, the situation in Libya is far more complex, and more akin to a civil war, than the situations in Egypt and Tunisia.

I can't help but wonder how any of the member states of the Security Council would handle an uprising against their respective governments.

Sky and BBC are both reporting that gaddaffi forces are continuing to shell Misrah-after they declared a cease fire...
Another war crime for gaddaffi to answer to?

I'm in Algeria working. Libya is right next door. The Algerians told me that the ceasefire was announced last night. Obviously with the way our BS media oulets in the west operate the news from last night didn't get out till today. I guess we will have to just wait and see. But I'd rather believe the guys here than our controlled media.

It will have to be a case of Watch This Space!!

What does he want a cease fire from?

According to him there have never been any exchanges of fire and no unrest.... Now he wants a cease fire?

And do you realize you don't overthrow a dictatorship through peaceful protests? I am not sure you fully understand what is going on over there and the history of Moamer Kadhafi's reign and rise to power.
This guy is far from a good guy. The reason you hear his name so much isn't because he is a favorite of the people. Under his rule, Lybia is one of the most censored and oppressed countries in the Middle East. Did you know it is illegal to learn another language in Lybia?
He runs his country through fear and intimidation. Just as any good dictator, he has spies and informants all over his country infiltrated into factory's, local law enforcement, media. Anybody that speaks out about him or the state is silenced.
This is why those people are running around with AK's and rocket propelled grenades.

While they are waiting to decide what action if any to take in Libya they should sort out Yemen where it is all kicking off with the shooting dead of at least30 protesters and injuring of 200 others. news.sky.com... e/201103315955150?lpos=World_News_Carousel_Region_4&lid=ARTICLE_15955150_Yemen_Protesters_Shot_Dead_During_Demonstrations_Against_Government_Of_Presid ent_Ali_Abdullah_Saleh

So as another scenario, If 1000 people armed themselves and tried to over-run the white house, but the army and police came in to use whatever means necessary to stop the uprising, Is this considered to be the US killing its own people?

Yes, but not in the means you are tring to make...

Nothing was done when Egypt and Iran..etc.. had their police breaking up protests, however if the U.S started to military airstrike protestors on the front lawn on the white house then yes, it would be considered killing it's own people.
