This offensive against Gadaffi Duck was going to start regardless what was going on. This is plain and simply raping Libya for their Oil. Remember all those visits from Tony Blair to Gadaffi? French military jets are preventing forces loyal to Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi from attacking the rebel-held city of Benghazi, French President Nicolas Sarkozy says. It is believed to be the first act of intervention since the UN voted on Thursday for a no-fly zone over Libya.

French aircraft have also flown over "all Libyan territory" on reconnaissance missions, French military sources said earlier. The French Rafale jets took off from their base at Saint-Dizier in eastern France, a source told the Agence France-Presse news agency.

The planes encountered no problems during the first few hours of their mission, the source said, and the flights would continue for the next several hours.

Update: 1620: BBC correspondent Kevin Connelly in Tobruk said Colonel Gaddafi had used a "window of opportunity" between the passing of the UN resolution and the start of military action to mobilise his forces into Benghazi.

There's no way that he could resist an even minor Allied Intervention. His only options are:

- Materializing his threat of "contaminating" Oil and Gas reserves in a "Burnt Land" strategy of retreat,

- Revealing much of what he knows about TPTB which he mingled with intimately for decades,

- Gaining undeserved sympathy as a victim of the equally dishonorable attack by his former allies.


Just like Ben Laden who died in December 2001 according to Benazir Bhutto just before she was assassinated - some believe for outing this info - there will be nowhere on Earth for Qaddafi to hide.


Can the 'Bad Guys' really get away?
