with risk of sounding cliche, i will say this: all artwork is open to the interpretation of the viewer. (yup, 4 years of art school taught me
something). you being the artist, have the most intimate perspective of the piece.
that being said, the painting certainly portrays the anguish if "gaia" (personified earth), which seemed to be your intent.
i dare say, perhaps the pain you were picking up on is beyond solely the pain of japan at the moment, for (unfortunately) that is simply one anguish
of the earth, and as we know there are many tragedies befalling the earth, and the creatures (humans included) therein.
you said you painted this around x-mas. there was a full lunar eclipse right about that time, and (if you jive with this stuff) the energy was
potent. eclipses are traditionally a time to explore the darker aspects of the psyche.
anyhow... it is an evocative work you've created. do you show your work? at galleries? coffee houses? etc.?
