Be safe man. Hope to see you here again, when things are more calm.
For now, you will be missed.

To everyone who thought it would be clever to insult, attack, impolitely question, and otherwise engage in douchebaggery I would like to offer you my sincere condolences for being born as such giant anuses.

When so many are obviously appreciating and gaining insight from something that will not hurt anyone and could possibly help it is not prudent, polite or otherwise conducive to learning and growing as a person to engage in these behaviors. The only thing this could accomplish is similar to the little kid who doesn't like the other kids playing with a toy so he breaks it. Which is nothing at all.

Perhaps there was confusion? Was this an intellectual thread that would warrant this kind of critical questioning? ummm no!, was it a political statement that goes against your political beliefs? Some made it so but it wasn't.

This was a journaling of first hand experiences in an area many of us are intensely curious and concerned about at present. As such ALL of those responses which were not thanks or legitimate polite questions were not appropriate and ATS would be a better place if you were all banned. But you probably won't be because using discretion and being a decent human being is apparently not in the T&Cs.

Can you tell I'm irritated?

And just because a few people that did not have the maturity to reign in their childish thoughts but instead voiced or wrote it out in forms of snide comments we have drove away a very good source of information in a largely untrustable world. Really, sometimes I wish people grew a brain, as not in an intellectual brain where they know everything in terms of knowledge, as in a brain where they knew how to communicate and interact properly with a fellow human...

ST, if you're reading this, I hope you return, but I understand if you won't, so I'm wishing you, your family and your fellow countrymen all the luck in the world to get through this tough time in the history of Japan. Stay safe

Silent Thunder - Hi -- I am sorry that you left. I know this is an extremely stressful time for you. Through your pictures I was begining to really feel what life in Tokyo must feel like right now. Thank you for that. I consider you an invaluable asset.

I haven't done u2u's however if you need any info, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to get it to you.

I think alot of the attacks directed at you have been extremely childish and I doubt that any of those very few folks have ever survived a disaster or have first hand knowledge of living through the aftermath of one. Empathy, like charity, begins at home (and in this case should begin when posting on this board).

For your own mental health may I suggest it may be time to visit your friends in the south.

This is a public forum that also attracts some #holes. I don't understand why the OP isn't exercising the ignore button? Am I missing something here?

Could you please tell me where the ignore button is, or were you speaking metaphorically?

thanks for giving a second try Silent Thunder
the day to day life over there is interesting to hear about..and that there seems to be less news about radiation over there than there is.

as a loooooooong time member of ATS, im actually appaled at the childish and high school type posts on both threads. if you have a question, simply ask the OP, no need to make some type childish post about the lack of the info that YOU personaly want. the OP is a resource for SOME types of info..just ask.AND it is painfully obvious that most posters do not read much of the thread, if any. You do know he lives in that neck of the woods??

it baffles me to see how some think that he is some type of thrill seeking, fear-mongering, adrenilne junky thumbing his nose at the whole situation or someone trying to 'make a name' for himself. it is pretty obvious what his intentions are and he stated that.

IGNORANCE: the state or fact of being ignorant, the lack of knowledge or awareness, unaware or uninformed

Silent Thunder, 3rd time is a charm

Dont worry folks...

ST will be back.

Silent and Thunder...for sure he/she will be back

Seems to me like a test the truth thread anyway...which is all well and good and fine by me

Very interesting thread/post and topic for sure...gratis for the opportunity to read and comment thereon.

Best of luck to you and all of the souls in Japan going through this horrible event.

I will send well wishes for your safety.

If this had happened in say on our west coast, I dare say we would have lost more lives.

We were not and are not prepared as much as the Japanese.

Also, I've said it before and I will say it again - Something that has a half life of thousands of years is nothing to mess around with.

Nuclear energy is not clean - it's hot and dangerous.

For those that don't believe me, I was in nursing and witnessed several cancer patients die from radiation poisoning. It's not a good way to go.

Stay safe.

Keep your head.

Follow your gut feelings.

If you can, keep us informed because here in America, I don't think we always get the full story.

This thread would be a whole lot more interesting if it had ANY information. I don't know why you started it, because there is next to nothing of substance in it. And I don't get why everyone is praising you for doing not much of anything. Total fail, as far as I'm concerned. What a waste of time.

Well go away and post on another thread..
I loved the 1st thread and im loving this one..

The news has dried up a bit here in the UK also, so its good to have feet on the ground for us ATS'ers..

I say you take your comments and go away.
You are a lone voice in a thread of people who are wanting to talk to this man who is in hell at the second.

Shame on you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no. Stick to "not feeding the trolls". This thread is very informative and feeding the ilk of their kind will muddy the waters.

[EDIT to state that if you do ever RETURN Mr. ST., please clarify some questions below. But anyone's welcome to do so!]

On the subject of Geiger Counters... what unit does it use? What is a milli-Sievert and if they are different, how so? I did not know about milli-Sieverts until after the media coverage of the nuke disaster. I was only familiar with the Geiger Counter. Care to shed some light on this?

Good luck on your GC search Mr. ST. I've heard Gieger Muller is good - though I better check back on my radiation specialist friend. Looking forward to your adventures in Tokyo and the rest of Japan.

Thanks for the heads up on there. Very much appreciated. Harigato Gozaimas. [Did I say that right, hehe...]

Well that's just brilliant

I was really really hoping to see more images of Tokyo from a real person.

We had a member in Tokyo NOW (and anyone that had actually bothered to read the last thread and this one in its entirety would see he had already provided proof) giving us up to the minuet reports and images.

Did the people that were bleating on about what he was eating or drinking stop to think for one second that he might actually be under a great deal of stress? No, he doesn't 100% HAVE to be there but he opted not to abandon Tokyo and his colleagues (his reasons for doing so are absolutely none of our business).

All ST was doing was offering to provide us with snap shots of life in Tokyo now.... One of the points that came across was that Tokyo had not ground to a halt and some people were carrying on with things.

Some people bleated on about his thread not containing any information that was of interest to them, well that was the point of the thread... ST offered to attempt to answer any questions we had for him but instead of asking the questions that you felt were absent you flamed him for not being a mind reader and posting answers to your unasked questions.

I'm gutted to be honest because I was really hoping to see some intelligent questions and more images of Tokyo as it is now.

ST- Stay safe, I hope it all works out for you, for what its worth I think you were right in staying and not jumping ship too early, Japan needs foreign money and business investors now more than ever.

We have a fellow ATSer who is in a very scary situation..................couldn't you just either keep your fingers off the keyboard if you cannot say something nice or be supportive.

Silent Thunder is in the middle of "where it's happening" and that is enough.

I feel sorry for anyone, including the animals over there now.

No we never get the full story, the governments always minimize stuff and they're darn good at hiding what's really going on too, even from the people that are right smack there.

If anyone doesn't have anything nice to say - shut the heck up.

I would imagine everyone over there in that area is scared, just a little supportive well wishes would go a long way.

Straw that broke the camel's back. You win. I apologize for offending you, and all the rest of humanity, with my very presence.

(Storms out of the room stomping feet with an exaggerated pout on the face.)

You do realize the importance of the material that you are offering us don't you? You do realize that it trumps your feelings and emotions don't you? You do realize that you are letting everyone know that you could care less about getting the material to us, you just want people to grovel for your return as you pout don't you? You will not be missed.

Awwwww.... And I was really curious about the radiation levels in downtown Tokyo too! I wonder if they're over the prescribed 250 mSV there.

But anyways, S&F -- for what it's worth. Take care of yourself and be very careful at all times.

You don't say it outright, but these two sentences taken together indicate that you think he owes this to us, which he does not.

He's dealing with the Japan situation as best he can, he has enjoyed ATS in the past and thought he would come here and share some information (on his own volition) and he was chased off by a bunch of Nancies.
