It looks like Google updated the image around Area 51 again. This is the second time in a month. The new date seems to be June 2010. Great resolution as well.

hey there...i am in australia, and for whatever reason my google maps images have different date.... mine say 'USDA farm service agency.GeoEye map data c2011'... wish i knew how to screenshot... very clear indeed!...

And what is the point again is this an evidence hunt or what so there is a new picture what is the point its a picture of some roads and junk if its there its there im just not getting it.

Why not just click File, Save, then Save Image.
I've done this a number of times, stitched pictures together, and made an Area 51 poster.

New building 37°13'56.78"N 115°48'48.81"W

Path from new building leads to a patch at 37°14'0.08"N 115°48'48.90"W
This patch was there before.

Whatever was going on here got some new stuff 37°13'41.73"N 115°49'23.41"W

Pavement here was dug up 37°14'6.38"N 115°48'48.58"W

Not really new, but I wonder if they do or did static RCS here.
Probably a portable pylon at 37°15'16.39"N 115°49'4.60"W
This looks like where a permanent pylon was located, though there is a dish there now. 37°15'42.16"N 115°49'10.38"W
This structure reminds me a lot of the dishes at Helendale 37°14'50.83"N 115°48'59.28"W

Four new towers here 37°17'41.22"N 115°49'20.89"W

Something to the west of the localizer was removed. 37°17'10.14"N 115°49'15.60"W

Something added on Papoose Mountain facility 37°12'21.93"N 115°50'23.35"W

A second taxi line was added for the new hangar 37°13'42.98"N 115°48'44.08"W

This structure at the side of the new hangar looks like a stairway to the top of the building. 37°13'44.54"N 115°48'37.50"W
From Tikaboo, you could see this, but it was impossible to determine what was there.

I wonder if the facility at 37°13'41.88"N, 115°49'23.24"W is a shooting range? Sort of appears so. Right on the edge of the base, with a hill behind it.

Also -
Purple splotches on runway "stub". Something there, or just artifacts?

Hangar door on south side of big hangar is clearly visible in this latest update.
My GE ruler shows it as 175 ft. wide.

Regarding your purple things, they are in my panorama I did in July 2010. Here is a cropped out image:

Fenders? Loch Ness monster model? Who knows.

The TTR small arms range looks quite a bit different than the area you think is a small arms range, but it might be a shooting range. I think this is the TTR small arms range here on Google Earth:

I called it the "drive in theater" when I photographed it because I'm not completely sure it is a shooting range since the targets are uphill. I can't see training to shoot uphill.

The old Tonopah Army shooting range still exists, except there is no army.
38° 4'44.24"N 117° 4'24.93"W
Plenty of shells there, so it is obviously used by the locals or perhaps the guards from the nearby prison.

If I never mentioned it, the bunkers near the Tonopah Speedway are left over from the Army days. The state puts important documents in there. There are photos of the inside of the bunkers and it looks like a mess, so take the word important with a grain of iodized salt.

Wow there is a strange anomaly. It is blueish and somewhat triangular with rounded edges and right on a runway staging area.
With the incredible zoom on these newest images the thing looks very very note worthy and almost out of place yet definitely there and an actual image.
There are a lot of New additions and a ton of cars and activity for a closed or non functioning base.
The stuff looks awfully cutting edge in appearance.
You owe it too yourselves too spend a few looking at these newer images.
Lots of new detail and ?????? all over.

Regarding the blue "fenders", it was pointed out to me these things are nearly 40ft long. Visualize the width of a condo. Those suckers are big.

Since they were left out in the open for a scheduled satellite photo pass, the base really doesn't consider them to be secret. One possibility is these "fenders" will show up on the base visible to the outside world, so no use in hiding them from prying eyes.

In the second image of Area 51 that is posted above it has a red marker(F). Just too the right and down of that is a very peculiar blueish/black oddity between the strips.
A zoom in looks wild and for some reason I cannot save or post the screen shot.

This looks like a detention basin at an abandoned taxiway. Of course, I can't say that conclusively. If you look at the history, it has been there a while. The google earth community claims the basin is there to catch fuel. It is well known that the A-12 and SR-71 leaked fuel on the ground. The dimensions of the plane changes once it warmed up, causing the leak to stop. Enough fuel to fill a basin? I hope not. Maybe once the plane left (hopefully towed so as to not ignite the fuel), they washed down the areas and that wash filled the basin. The guy that started the thread is generally reliable.

The nearby facility at

has been modified over the years and absolutely is being used. The four towers are recent (maybe two years) The "privacy fence" went up to block views from Tikaboo presumably, but even on the base, workers can only look at what they need to know. The same goes for that dirt pile by the new hangar. Maybe it is to block the TIkaobo view, or maybe to block the view from the Janets, presuming they are allowed to have their windows open.
