I know that Japan in the most active earthquake region in the world and that the Japanese people are quite used to feeling them on a regular basis.
Well, I just found this video animation of the events leading up to the 9.0 quake on March 11th. I believe the video begins tracking quakes on the
9th and runs through the 14th. The big one happens around 1:17 into the animation. According to this video, it actually looks like things were
pretty calm up until the big one hit and them all hell broke loose. You can check it out here;
