I just signed up because I read about a b-52 bomber hitting the empire state building, and it being open for business on the following monday (it hit on a saturday.) And haven't even heard a mention of it anywhere, so i tried to create a post, to see if this is a stupid question, but I have to post 19 more times before I can.

I never saw it, but I suppose I'm still curios why people don't use it as an example more often

InfoPls

On July 28, 1945, an Army Air Corps B-25 bomber crashed into the 79th floor of the Empire State Building. Fourteen people died and $1 million damage was done to the building.

Damninteresting

One very interesting note:

Investigation showed that the structural integrity of the Empire State Building was not compromised by this accident, but the cost to repair the damage was on the order of a million dollars. For more information, you might check your local library for old copies of New York daily newspapers on microfilm; this was front page news in New York City on July 29, 1945.

My comment:
Wasn't the WTC design supposed to be as sturdy as this?
Why haven't the families been allowed to sue again? (end my two cents).
Hope that helps!
