Well now, those members who came to this topicof discussion, trying to downplay what was really going on in that Nuclear plant, your credibility has completely been tarnished.

I knew something worse was going to happen, but no.

This is going to get even worse before it gets any better.

That is for sure.

I feel so sorry and also feel pride for those people in Japan, what else can be flung at them. They have been brought to thier knees. But yet they still show humanity. The Japanease people are an example to us all.

Now now, no need to rub their faces in it.

Some people are just too ready at accept the "experts" opinions that national media likes throw at us. Some people also will never accept or believe that governments lie to us.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Some people were just born fools and will never learn.

The EQs are going south like TrueAmerican said it would. I fear this is only the beginning. Damn it, now we worry about the nuclear fallout...I truly hope the ones near this triple plate zone are solid and all shut down! Leave Tokyo ASAP!

Maybe he is tuned in to the NWO planning room

Okay so the workers are now abandoning the plant

America on radiation alert: Japan faces world's worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl as experts warn fallout may reach U.S.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Fears that America could be hit by the nuclear fallout from the Japan earthquake have dramatically increased as workers prepared to abandon a reactor crippled by the earthquake and tsunami last night in the face of what is set to become the world's second worst nuclear disaster - topped only by Chernobyl.

Damage at the number two reactor at the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power complex is worse than thought, the Japanese government admitted tonight, sparking fears for human health both in Japan and the U.S.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has admitted it is 'quite possible' the fallout could reach America.

Mind you I'm only an Engineering student (3rd year) but I still say that they are lying.

My argument revolves around these facts:

Chernobyl:
Chain reaction during testing. (@ 5 mw production at time of event)
No, overloaded spent fuel pools.
And "One" reactor fully constructed and fueled.

Fukushima:
Chain reaction in 3 reactors. (running near 100% prior to shutdown)
7 overcrowded spent-fuel pools (2 or 3 possible scattered to the wind by explosions) -figure of speech-
6 fully constructed and operational reactors. (3 not running at time of quake)

What's my point?

The sheer magnitude of fuel located within one of these reactor buildings dwarfs Chernobyl by factors of thousands. To say "Chernobyl on steroids" or "three times Chernobyl" is ludicrous! If just one reactor at Fukishima (#3 especially, MOX fuel) goes the way of Chernobyl it's already exponentially worse. They are still down playing this.

Hell, the short-term exposure (days, weeks, or months) at 400 millisieverts will be lethal to those in Tokyo. It all depends on which of the many possible isotopes that could be present and their respective half-lives in conjunction with the respective to their organic mobility (does it replace mineral or nutrient uptake, i.e. potassium, iodine, ect.)

Like I said, I'm just a student but am I wrong?

I was wondering if anyone has another link to the Radiation Network or if there is another website available to the public.

I tried to access it this morning and got a 404 error message, unable to connect to server. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Radiation Network

What good is a website that measures radiation going to be if they take it down when we need it the most?

I don't see how the stuff can get high enough to get into the jetstream. If it did though it won't just be US that would be affected, Europe as well.

I heard a guy on tv today say that Nuclear Power had become more acceptable in recent years because nuclear does not give off CO2 which is blamed for global warming/climate change (although he did say GW)

So can we have the MGW supporters please stand up and tell us if they proud to have caused this situation with their total bs.

If the fall out lands anywhere I hope it's their backyards.

Another fire reported in reactor 4, the workerS battling this, it has been reported have suffered hi radiaition contamination.

Are those American Nuclear spcialists also invovled in this?

I will try to find the link or one of the actual members here might know it and post it first.

There are several options:
Number 1:
MOX fuel rod proximity fission criticality event has been shown to be possible in spent-fuel ponds. This would require the overcrowded rods to be moved from their safe position in the pool by a powerful external event (explosion, earthquake...). The used fuel would become critical end explode much in the way the Little Boy did, only orders of magnitude larger (Little Boy was roughly 150 pounds of material vs. 50-100 tons per pool). Only a small amount of the fuel would be consumed by the explosion, sending the entire inventory of the plant in every direction.
This hypothesized event would reach the ionosphere ( much less the jet stream).

Number 2:
A chain reaction leads to a meltdown (I'm using this term to represent full containment breach by molten core material). Some, have speculated that if such a mass reached the water table the resultant steam blast would be sufficient to eject material to those altitudes). But just as many scientist say it is impossible and no such explosion would result.

Number 3:
A rod cladding fire resulting from low water in spent-fuel pools. Here the simple convection of the heated gas could potentially carry particulates to sufficiently high altitude.

Yet, again. I know we are all selfish beings but honestly people. There is going to be fallout. People have, are, and will die no matter where this ends up. What ever reaches America or Europe will be orders of magnitude less than Japan and the last I checked there are roughly four billion people within a statistically significant distance of the reactors.

I for one pray it heads this way. One billion (America's, Europe, etc. *roughly*) moderate to mildly acute cases of radiation poisoning vs four billion moderate to severe cases.

If you search through DOE papers many of these events have been discussed and dismissed due to the low probability of such a sequence of events. Do a little digging and these events are very well understood by science and complaints have been voiced sense the 1950's.

If someone knows the title of the ATS thread I'm referring to (discussing possible meltdown scenarios) could you post it. I will keep looking for it.

I don't understand the idea of the workers fighting another fire. They can't stay in super protective suits for weeks or months trying to put out the other cores, with the damaged container. I can't believe they're really there, it must be stories.

I actually think the container was likely to be damaged in the earthquake/tsunami, which would mean a massive leak of radiation already.

I would hope wherever it goes it is with the least amount of harm, as well. Good post.

I'm going to be hopeful (if that even makes sense anymore). When it goes "big-batta-boom" then I will worry about global ramifications. As bad as this is, it is still a localized event, and that's bad enough.

Also, the firefighters are not there. At this point even with 2 minute rotations a crew of 50 died hours ago (if trying to fight the fire).

How are we going to clean this up? We have to if we want to stay here.

There was problems at another reactor site on the day of the Tsunami. Anybody heard if that facility managed containment, or is there still another facility with problems of a lesser evil than this one?

I would think by now there would be some sort of general radiation map of Japan.
(unless there is one and I missed it) I am guessing we have the technology to do so.
I very well could be wrong though.

There may not be. I had a discussion with someone who works in that sort of department in Canada a couple of years ago, and he didn't have a map that did that either.

I've been looking around to see if any of the GIS maps in my nation display information on radiation - but they are all about particulate matter.

I haven't yet figured out if there are certain types of particulate that are being monitored that have causal links to radiation disasters. That might be suggestive at least.

Now, obviously, this cannot be "fresh info" as it has been drafted, reviewed and then finally released to the public... No way they could get that done quickly. But it is the latest official press release containing all pertinent data (temps, injuries, radiation in air, etc...)

If US navy ships, 100 miles away are picking up radiation alerts (sensors on the ships automatically pick this up and alert the crew), then I can only imagine what its like right around the plant. The people working on the plants are probably goners for sure. How many people died fighting Chernobyl? I think it was thousands.
