I don't see how anyone can deny the incredible talent of the band "Rush"

For those who don't know this band, its probably because their Canadian. Somehow a lot of bands that come from Canada don't get the recognition they deserve. Yet just by listening to their music you can clearly see the musical genious in their work. Not to mention they have one of the best drummers on the planet. Hes from my home town

Way to go bubbles

CONFORM OR BE CAST OUT!! :O

Canada FTW!

Underrated? Insane, they got props from the Trailer Park boys, that's good enough for me. I tell you, some of the licks are insane I'd love to be able to play YYZ but I just can't get it.

Rush, out of most of the Canadian bands, is probably the most known south of the border. The Tragically Hip have been making strides down south too. The current crop of up and coming bands is looking great. I have huge hopes for the Jimmy Swift Band. I really don't know how they haven't broken out down south yet.

I also don't understand how they are "underrated".

They're played daily on US classic rock radio and everyone who listens to classic rock knows them, usually from the first few notes of any of their greatest hits.

I get that you're all "ra-ra!" for them, but don't make them out to be some kind of underdog.

This is my opinion, i don't believe they get half the recognition they deserve... Yes they've won awards...but look who they've lost to... i mean come on...

1981 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"YYZ" — lost to The Police's "Behind My Camel"

1992 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"Where's My Thing?" — lost to Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover"

1995 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"Leave That Thing Alone" — lost to Pink Floyd's "Marooned"

2004 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"O Baterista" from Rush In Rio — lost to Brian Wilson's "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow"

2008 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"Malignant Narcissism" from Snakes & Arrows — lost to Bruce Springsteen's "Once Upon a Time in the West"

2009 nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance
"Hope (Live For The Art Of Peace)" from Songs for Tibet: The Art of Peace — lost to Zappa Plays
Zappa's "Peaches en Regalia" (featuring Steve Vai and Napoleon Murphy Brock)

2011 nomination for Best Music Video Long Form
"Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" — lost to The Doors "When You're Strange" documentary

Lastly, if you don't like my opinion...to bad! I could honestly care less...

If you have your own on the subject feel free to post it, argue against what i've said....again i don't care feel free.

But don't critisize me for having my own opinion....

I can kinda agree that they are underrated. Growing up in the 90s, I didn't see too many people talk about Rush too much, although they got a lot of radio play. I think a lot of people are closet fans. Well, that can't be that good in everyone's mind, since it seems like Neil Peart makes a lot of "worst rock lyricists" lists.

I'm sorry, did I stumble across your blog?

Oh, since that INS'T the case, please allow me to retort.

Maybe it's because Rush sucks?

Ok,that was frickin awesome,i still think marooned is better though, but for that i shall give you an S+F!

I could totally hear one of my favourite bands Soundgarden when that song breaks, they must have been an influence, in some of their early stuff anyway!!!

Then i really listened to their stuff...

They rock the house.

And yes...They're under rated because although they're popular they don't get half the recognition they deserve...

Cheers man

Neil Pert rocks and I have to agree that even though they are huge they are still under rated. Saw them in Pittsburgh a while ago ( in August) and it blew my mind they absolutely rocked it. ......

I've known about (and loved) Rush for years. I do think its a shame they've never got a grammy or been put in the Rock & Roll hall of fame. Some may argue on the grammy - but I do think they deserve to be in the hall of fame at least.

As a side note - yeah - Niel Pert does write most of their lyrics. I know some don't like them, but I do. His songs tend to be about stuff other than the usual sex, drugs and parties.

Here's a couple to ponder - love 'em or hate 'em.

Freewill - (Niel Pert lyrics)
There are those who think that life
Has nothing left to chance
With a host of holy horrors
To direct our aimless dance

A planet of playthings
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign
Blame is better to give than receive

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will

This bit is from Dreamline..
"When we are young
Wandering the face of the earth
Wondering what our dreams might be worth
Learning that we're only immortal
For a limited time....."

If you like them cool if not - its ok .. because remember..

“Different eyes see different things, different hearts beat on different strings” - Niel Pert - Different Strings
