Believ it or not, the CRTC in Canada approved the broadcasting of Al-Jazeera, while still censoring FOX News.

Canada's increasingly strange government, which continues to censor Fox News Channel, has covertly approved the unleashing of the terrorists' favorite propaganda machine.
TPN (Terrorist Propaganda Network)

"The federal broadcast regulator made one of its most controversial decisions in recent years when it approved the digital distribution [Thursday] of the Arabic-language TV news network Al-Jazeera, although it did so without any public hearings," the Toronto Globe and Mail reported today.

As the article states, the Canadian media elite are still afraid of allowing conservative viewpoints to be broadcast. How can the Canadian people live with such censorship?

Its funny. Canada is in more of a 1984 society than the USA. We may not have al-Jazerra here but we don't censor news stations liek Fox, or CNN nor would I want either be censored. I don't care if CNN or Fox has a tilt, let them. If your liberal watch CNN, conservative go over to Fox.

Its funny how they allow a terrorist biased news service that supports the enemies of the free world, yet it censors a conservative source. No government should censor the news.

Canada must be an awful place to live. Their liberal government has censored Fox, and has even restriced the critizism of gays.

This is getting old guys. First it was "Canada's Covert Connetion to Libya", information obtained on Petro Can's website, how "covert" is that, now this. I don't know why they don't carry Fox News but I can assure you that we can tune in any Fox affiliate at 6 and 11 to get the news.

Watching the 6 o'clock news on a Fox affiliate is not the same as letting FOX News be broadcast. They don't allow FOX News to be broadcast because they won't allow you to see any point of view other than what will keep them in power. It is brainwashing, or mind control.

The fact that the CRTC approved it covertly, without public hearings, proves that they are afraid to let opposing viewpoints be aired.

Daylight is still the best antiseptic when it comes to exposing their Orwellian culture for what it is.

Oh, yes, Orwellian indeed!

Gimme a break. This isn't an issue about political matters, it's about Canadian content. American culture and programmign already floods the airwaves, so the government is starting to limit the amount of it being shown. They're doing the same thing with magazines, books, etc.

this is a joke. they had the same issue in england- al jazeera allowed, fox not. the reasons are simple, al jazeera was willing to make concessions for local sponsors and the like. fox will eventually be allowed, if it isnt already. this isnt censorship. get real.

Dude, you have NO idea how screwed up our gov't is. A gov't agency grows medicinal weed and another gov't agency, Canada Post, can't transport it. You are looking for conspiracy where you will find actually find idiocy. I for one do not watch the news, Amer. or Can. I seek my news in print or online, it's less presented, and biased.

The US government does censor the news networks. It uses FCC public interest regulations to hold a club over their heads . Do you think it is accident that networks all cover the same stories in same order of importance night in, night out? Often you can start listening to a story on one network then change network and hear the sentenced completed that was started on the first. They should just lump them together and call them TASS. I see no basis for the condemnation of canada.

Calling Canada a 1984 society is a joke. Actually being from Canada I think i'd notice something like that. We do get CNN and MSNBC channels. We also get the BBC, so it's not like we only get one perspective in our news.

In fact i'd think there is a lot less censorship in Canada than in the US in general. We arn't as worried about a bit of nudity on TV or about swearing and all that stuff. I know that has nothing to do with news or content, but still, we don't freak out when we see a breast for a split second on tv.

Like DeusEx said. I think it just has to do with the amount of American content that gets into this country. It can be a bit much sometimes. But yeah we get plenty of differnt news stations here. It's not like our only channel is the CBC. Plus there are other Canadian tv stations that arn't run by the gov't (i think). In this day and age with the internet, anyone anywhere can read whatever the hell they want. So i really can't imagine a whole lot of brainwashing/mind control going on up here in the great white north.

Umm fox affiliates only carry local news not the fox news channel programming. IT is a totally different animal with each affiliate basically setting their own programming agenda. While they do have access to the national feeds they do not have to run any story they don't agree with

I could not agree more!

Also, claiming CNN as liberal makes absolutely no sense unless you are so far to the right you don't know what left is anymore.

But don't subscribe to labels and partisanship.

We should ALL be complaining that our news sources are not more OBJECTIVE!

Lastly, regarding this supposed censorship (in yet another of many attempts by the thread poster to bash Canada). I would only say that the fact Canada is allowing the Arab point of view into the country proves that censorship of the kind being claimed is not happening. You do know that Al-Jazeera is based in Quatar, a close US ally, dont you?

The workings of a Canadian bureaucracy like the CRTC are deeply mysterious to most like myself.

The reasons FOXs 24h News-channel is not on the air here (unless you happen to have satellite or an internet connection) could be a multitude of things from: - Canadian content rules, - number of stations available on the dial due to the large number of French, English, international and specialty channels already carried, - market size or a myriad of other considerations.

By the way has FOX even applied to CRTC? I mean come on! If FOX News were being censored they would be going on about it all the time!

We get Fox news over here on satellite; we've had it for ages. No one watches it and it's treated as little more than a comedy channel but we get it. People outside America aren't really interested in American based news services. We have our own.

I went to the CRTC website to have a look into this and their press release on the recent allowed/denied stations included Al Jazeera and 6 other disallowed channels including an Italian one, a Chilian one and a couple of other American ones. They put the reasons down to competition with canadian broadcasts. The news reports on the absence of Fox seem to have forgotten to point out that the Al Jazeera broadcasts will be subject to censoring, which to my knowledge they're not in the U.K.

The only mentions of Fox I could find was going back to 2000 with the approval of what Intrepid and Johannmon were talking about.

I just found this article from CRTC. It looks like the process for deciding wither Fox news is broadcast in Canada is still ongoing, this article is dated 9 July 2004 and invites comments up to a deadline of 29th August 2004.

Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2004-45
Ottawa, 9 July 2004

Call for comments on proposals for the addition of Fox News and NFL Network to the lists of satellite services eligible for distribution on a digital basis

Sounds like your government is not THAT much different than ours

I think this is true of MOST governments

maybe Fox just doesn't get the viewers. It has less "news" than just about every other news channel there is. In the UK it seems comprised mostly of a 20 minute loop interspersed with pointless "world weather" sections telling us it's overcast and humid in Buenos Aries.

The other reason, and probably more likely, is that it's a Murdoch station. He locks others out of his markets, so the Canadians, with their own tradition in powerful press dynasties(Beaverbrooks, Blacks etc), returned the favour.

Sky TV(Murdoch) and ITV digital(Granada and Carlton), had a similar tiff.

Yeah, sure, keep fooling yourselves. They tell you what news channels you can watch. They don't want you to watch anything that opposes their socialist doctrine.

They talk about it frequently - tonight is a matter of fact.

Of course, you wouldn't know that since you're not allowed to watch it.

Give me one specific example fo the US gov't censoring the news, or else stop making such ridiculous allegations. As for your 'proof' of a story being carried simultaneously on different channels, well that just shows how little you know about breaking stories, getting scooped, or the way competitive businesses work in general.

You guys love to bash the US. But just let somebody point out that all is not rosy in the land of mayonaisse and socialism, then you pull out the crying towels quicker than I can say Trotsky.

FOX is directed at an american audience. I used to have directv, so I should know. If you want ameican news move down south or go to the nearest library and get a copy of the New York Times or the USA Today.

People in the states are more used to violence than Canadians are. Therefore it's difficult to take it all in.

What dissapoints me is that CHOI-FM was cancelled. A quebec radio station. Also Don Cherry got a 20 sec tape delay for accusing the french of wearing visors; wheras Janet Jackson bared all and gave fox a 20 sex tape delay.

Martha Stewart got 6 months in jail;l whereas a convicted pedophile got 1 year of house arrest. Like it's a crazy world.
