it's funny how they say on the news that the earthquake shifted the earth axis when actually i think, it's the other way around. The pole shifts and magnetic strain on the axis actually cause the earthquakes.

Thoughts?

It is like a "did the chicken come first or the egg" question. It has been shown that the poles are always shifting, even if minutely. I'm more inclined to believe that the two aren't entirely intertwined (with every earthquake causing an axis shift, and vice versa), though massive earthquakes can cause the poles and axis to shift, so I would suspect that a massive pole shift would cause earthquakes.
