In a show of support for Japan, PlayOnline services have been suspended for Square Enix bigshots Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XI.

The decision was made in order to help conserve energy in Japan, after the major earthquake that struck the country the other day. As it stands, it is feared that there will not be enough supply left to sustain Japan, and thus corporations have been encouraged to help in the situation in whichever way they can.

Would be nice to get a list of other mmo companies that are doing this.
I know some people are upset that they can't play but they need to remember that
real life needs to come first.

That is good of them, ....was it mandated, or did they do it of their own volition?

encouraged?

it is the right thing to do

From what I read on other sites they chose to do this and are trying to get others to do the same.

Most companies that run MMOs aren't even based in Japan so they won't be taking any power from Japan. Most MMO game's servers actually run out of Korea or the US.
