What and when and why?
What would happen if this was in your country?
Perhaps this touches on multiculturalism, perhaps competing cultures inevitably provide ultimately for incivility during times of social stresses?

How will they riot? Stand on the beach and scream at the ocean?

It depends on how bad things get over there. If enough people get hungry, or scared enough over radiation issues from the power plants, sure, I could see riots happening. We know how panicy crowds under stress can get.

Hopefully things won't get bad enough for that to happen, though.

Japan has one of the highest standards of living in the world, extremely low poverty and crime rates. What are you talking about?

of course in the USA we riot every time there is a natural disaster...why the blazes would the Japanese riot?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.--billy madison

No, the Japanese will not riot they are into helping one another and are very family oriented. They believe in what can I do for others. ^Y^

Nope, Japanese are very close to each other. No matter how bad the condition is...they stick altogether like Sushi.

FYI, they don't really 'open' to the foreigners. If you ever been in japan don't be surprised if you stumble upon a signboard says " Nippon only no foreigners allowed "

Absolutely NOT! First and foremost, you have to understand the culture.

Two, why would they??? There's no reason to riot. Who are they going to riot against? The ocean? They are not concerned with faults, they are concerned with recovery of missing persons, survival and rebuilding.

Three, if this were my country, the same thing would happen as will happen here. (Yes I live here). The Japanese are like an army of ants that you can't easily destroy. You can soak the mound, squash it, and do everything else, but all they will do is just keep picking up the pieces and rebuilding. Well, we all are for that matter....Americans are just a bit whinier about it.
But the Japanese are a proud people and extraordinarily disciplined....they will take this tragedy and turn it into an incredible masterpiece with poise, because that's the way they are.

RIOT!

Against who, there government who are doing everything to rectify a tragic situation even calling out to all the world for help. And most of the countries are coming to help. Rioting when your up to your neck in water is not smart...and they are smart people.

How can you riot against an earthquake?

I see what you are meaning about lack of food, water or basic necessities but there is not a direct link to a party of people that is responsible so I cannot see this ever happening.

The fact that they are accepting help from other countries is a MASSIVE testament as to how bad things really are. They would never, ever, EVER accept help unless they had no choice. It's not in their culture to ask for help or to accept it.

Sigh, I guess you have a point, I mean, you cant riot about, say a hurricaine that was days in coming right?
That would be ignorant, jus ignorant. Thank god it could never happen here, either.
A star for you

It is not as if the entire country of Japan has been devastated by this tragedy. One provincial area (prefecture) has unfortunately been ravaged by mother nature. The Japanese have understood for hundreds of years the volitile nature of their island home and have no doubt had contingency plans for scenarios like this.
The people of Japan are a stoic people who are masters of self control, self discipline, and self respect. I would wager than no matter how bad it gets over there they will conduct themselves with class and in a very orderly fasion. It is just the way their culture works. We in the west could learn a great deal from them.

We need to really keep the Middle East riots in perspective.

I was listening to a Saudi Arabian woman on the news and she was talking about why she wanted to and was supporting protests in her country. For her, she wants freedom and rights and made mention of the following:

-- She wanted women to be able to enter government buildings.
-- She wanted women to be able to take public transportation without a male escort
-- She wanted to be able to process her own papers for various things instead of only men
-- She wanted to be able to attend public meetings

These are only some of the things I remember. I think we sometimes forget how different and oppressive other parts of the world are and that the rights they are asking for many of us already take for granted.
