maybe because of THIS?

WTF???

This whole thing, the people's stunned ignorance of the gravity of the problem, blind TEPCO's unwillingness to realize that this is THE END and they will never resurrect Fukushima NPP, the continued denial by the government that there is even a problem...

It all reminds me of that scene in Saving Private Ryan. You know the scene: the guy is mortally wounded, his guts are hanging outside his body and he's already a dead man, he just doesn't know it yet. So he lays there in shock and incomprehension and stuffs his own intestines back into his abdomen, in a horrifying attempt to "fix" an unfixable problem.

I keep thinking of that scene. This is exactly what is happening to Japan.

They failed to mention the planet was named after, oh I don't know, the god of DEATH!!

At least there was truth in advertising there!

not that we would ever have that problem here..
I heard it from a very good source that we have nothing to worry about

I think whoever made this should be asked to drink plutonium everyday. If they believe what they say they should have no problem with that, right?

No F'ing kidding.

They are lying to us again.

In the following article on NHK we read the following:

Plutonium detected again in Fukushima plant soil

Tokyo Electric Power Company has again detected a very small volume of plutonium in soil samples from the disaster-stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The operator of the plant collected samples from 4 locations at the compound...

The first sample measured 0.26 becquerels of plutonium-238 per 1 kilogram of soil, down about 50 percent from the volume found earlier. Highly toxic plutonium, a byproduct of the nuclear power generation process, was also found at the same locations in samples collected on March 21st and 22nd...

TEPCO says the No.3 reactor at the Fukushima plant was powered with uranium-plutonium mixed-oxide fuel. But the company says that it cannot identify which reactor released the plutonium, because plutonium is produced at other reactors using uranium fuel.

Emphasis mine

Here is the evidence that they are lying:

According to the following fact sheet and various other sources online, plutonium-239 and plutonium-240 are formed in nuclear power plants when uranium-238 captures neutrons.

Plutonium Fact Sheet PDF

Plutonium-238 does not occur this way and must be intentionally produced, as per the following article:

Nasa is Running Out of Plutonium

TEPCO also states in the NHK article:

This level is almost the same as the amount usually in the Japanese soil and also about the same the level of fallout from nuclear tests in the atmosphere outside Japan.

I have seen the argument in more than one place that Japan has more radiation as a result of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and weapons testing in the Pacific. However, in this Universe Today article, we read:

Although plutonium-238 cannot be used for nuclear weapons...

So now we know that Plutonium 238 is not used in nuclear weapons!

Therefore the only reasonable conclusion is that the Plutonium 238 on site cannot be a by-product of ordinary fission, is not related to WW2 or weapons testing, and it is therefore probably from dispersed MOX pellets/fuel rods.

I have to remind everyone that the MOX was only put into use last fall and thus there would not have been any spent MOX fuel on-site. Any MOX on-site is from in-service fuel which was dispersed in the explosion at reactor #3, or from unused MOX fuel in storage.

As expected, TEPCO released their usual statement:

TEPCO says the volume is so small that it does not pose a threat to human health.

Check this out about Pluto...

en.wikipedia.org...

The name was soon embraced by wider culture. In 1930, Walt Disney introduced for Mickey Mouse a canine companion, named Pluto apparently in the object's honour, although Disney animator Ben Sharpsteen could not confirm why the name was given.[34] In 1941, Glenn T. Seaborg named the newly created element plutonium after Pluto, in keeping with the tradition of naming elements after newly discovered planets, such as uranium, which was named after Uranus, and neptunium, which was named after Neptune.[35]

TEPCO: Nitrogen injection going well

The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says it continues to inject nitrogen gas into the containment vessel of the No.1 reactor without problems. The nitrogen gas is being used to prevent a hydrogen blast at the reactor.

The Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, says that as of 6 AM Thursday pressure inside the containment vessel of the No.1 reactor had risen only slightly and that this indicates the operation is going well. The gas injection began at 1:30 AM Thursday.

TEPCO says it plans to continue the injection for about 6 days and will also consider taking similar measures at the No. 2 and No. 3 reactors.

According to this:

www.nirs.org...

casks might weigh up to 25 tons.

nuclear waste truck casks are extremely heavy – up to 25 tons

Unless that's a different type of cask.
