The Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility (MFFF) at the Savannah River Site in the US state of South Carolina began construction in August 2007 and will convert the US plutonium to MOX fuel. Expected to begin operations in 2016, the MFFF is designed to turn 3.5 t/yr of weapons-grade plutonium into MOX fuel assemblies, which will be loaded at Duke Energy's Catawba and McGuire plants. The contract to design, build and operate the MFFF was awarded to the Shaw AREVA MOX Services consortium in 1999, with the $2.7 billion construction option being exercised in May 2008.4

No wonder AREVA has been given a pass...They've been working with the US nuclear industry for some time now and are the recipient of quite a bit of funding from them.

Just been perusing one of the recent scientific papers about Fukushima, and have found a lot of good info. It is somewhat limited in scope, however it contains a wealth of information and analysis which we might find useful.

The attention is focused on Fukushima Daiichi Units 1 to 4 and no consideration is given to the simultaneous evolutions of transient scenarios in Units 5 and 6 as well as in the “common” spent fuel on the same site.

For example, here is an estimate of the total amount of radionuclides at R1-4 and the SFPs of those reactors:

Great googly moogly, that's a LOT of radioactivity. 2.37e20Bq of total estimated radioactivity between R1-4 and the SFPs of each. This does not even take into account the CSFP!

And if I am reading the following passage correctly, they are stating that the accident would have occurred even without the tsunami:

Reliability data for Fukushima NPP DG (Diesel Generator) should take into account the age, even though the DGs were never called in operation during their life. However, the DG failure probability with the condition of a few hundred operation hours (this time period was needed in the case of the Fukushima event) can be very close to unity. As a consequence, one might conclude that the influence of the tsunami, considered as responsible for the DG failure, might be negligible as far as the overall evolution of the accident is concerned. In other terms, the Tsunami only accelerated the evolution of the Fukushima accident.

Turmeric is the spice used in Asian dishes that gives curry its golden color. Curcumin, the chemical component of turmeric, has been studied extensively in the treatment and prevention of cancer. Green Tea Extract

Green tea is unprocessed and non-fermented tea leaves. They are rich in polyphenols, chemicals with potent antioxidant properties. It is prized throughout Asia for its many health benefits, but has also been studied in the West for its anti-cancer effects. In a laboratory study published by the American Association for Cancer Research in 2004, researchers determined that green tea extracts successfully inhibited the development and progression of prostate cancer cells. Other laboratory studies show similar results. This suggests that green tea can support the immune system during cancer treatments, as well as help prevent further cancer cells from developing.

Siberian Ginseng – Soviet researchers have reported that eleuthero extract has radioprotective abilities, and can be used therapeutically in conditions of acute and chronic radiation and sicknesses such as hemorrhaging, severe anemia, dizziness, nausea, vomiting , and headaches due to x-rays.
Gingko Biloba – According to Science News Daily, extracts of its leaves contain antioxidant compounds including glycosides and terpenoids known as ginkgolides and bilobalides. These compounds are thought to protect cells from damage by free radicals and other reactive oxidizing species found in the body. These are generated continuously by the body’s normal metabolism, and in excess in some diseases or after exposure to pollution or radiation. They damage proteins, DNA and other biomolecules and left unchecked can kill cells. Results suggest that ginko biloba extracts can neutralize the free-radicals and oxidizing agents produced in the cells by the radiation and so prevent them from undergoing apoptosis.

Black & Green Tea – The polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) derived from green tea protects animals from whole-body radiation, blocking lipid oxidation and prolonging life span. Several sources indicate that there were hundreds who survived Hiroshima at ground zero and the one thing they all had in common was drinking 20 cups of green tea per day.

Astragalus – An article published in Cancer, a publication of the American Cancer Society, reported that the aqueous extract of Astragalus membranaceus restored the immune functions in 90 percent of cancer patients studied.

Milk Thistle & Liver Support - A report suggests that milk thistle may prevent radiation toxicity. It enhances liver regeneration after exposure to heavy metals, radiation, or toxic chemicals. It reduces DNA damage and extends survival in animals exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. Silymarin’s free radical scavenging and direct antioxidant effects are credited with producing these results.

He had long preached of a coming nuclear conflict between communism and capitalism, but after the Soviet Union collapsed, Asahara adapted. Now the war would be fought between the United States and Japan, and only Asahara's followers would survive. Japan would be destroyed by a series of disasters, which would culminate in a worldwide nuclear holocaust.

The councilman testing black dust just posted readings of 650,000,000 Bq/m2 in Minamisoma. Compare this to the governments official highest levels reported. The following was posted last November. from Cesium from Fukushima plant fell all over Japan.

The highest combined cumulative density of radioactive cesium-134 and cesium-137 was found in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, at 40,801 becquerels per square meter. That was followed by 22,570 becquerels per square meter in Yamagata, the capital of Yamagata Prefecture, and 17,354 becquerels per square meter in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward....

One measurement station was used for each of the other 45 prefectures....

Figures were not available for Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, where the measurement equipment was rendered inoperable by the March 11 disaster....

The peak value in Ibaraki Prefecture was 970,000 times larger than the cumulative fallout density of 0.042 becquerel per square meter in fiscal 2009, found in an earlier nationwide survey before the Fukushima crisis started.

Before the accident, cesium-137, which has a longer half-life of 30 years, had been detected from time to time from atmospheric nuclear tests. But those densities mostly stayed below 1 becquerel per square meter, while cesium-134, with a shorter half-life, was rarely detected, the ministry officials said.

Key points above are the fact that (even to this day) the Japanese government refuses to release the readings for Fukushima and Miyagi, claiming the monitors were destroyed by the tsunami and EQ. However, Fukushima City, where I believe the monitoring post is, did not experience the main intensity of the quake, nor be hit by the tsunami. And at any time they could have fixed the monitoring stations or put up a new one.

The other key point is that background readings for all radionuclides from previous nuclear testing was 0.042 Bq/m2. Compare that to 650,000,000 Bq/m2 for just cesiums.

And the Japanese and US governments could care less.

South Carolina, The Only State That Does Not Have a Stationary Air Monitor For Radiation

Does anyone know why? There's one in Puerto Rico...Rhode Island, District of Colombia...but not a single air monitor in South Carolina.

DOE still funds $1.5 million for monitoring by South Carolina annually.

The South Carolina Depart­ment of Health and Environmental Control collects samples of air, soil, sediment, vegetation, fish, water, milk and game animals to determine the amount of radionuclides and chemicals present.

Anyone know where this radionuclides are being reported for SC?

I checked the

Salem had a big steam dump and declared unusual event on April 30th:

UNUSUAL EVENT DUE TO A POTENTIAL FIRE IN CONTAINMENT "Performing an I&C functional [test] caused an inadvertent Safety Injection signal resulting in a reactor trip/safety injection. All safety systems responded as designed for a safety injection. Electrical systems are aligned to normal offsite power sources. At the time of the safety injection signal, function testing of the 1PT505 turbine inlet pressure channel was in progress. This testing required the tripping of the high steam flow bistables. "As a result of the reactor trip and safety injection signal, the Emergency Diesel Generators started but did not load, the ECCS system (high head safety injection pumps actuated and injected into the reactor vessel, intermediate head safety injection pumps and low head (RHR) safety injection pumps) actuated. All 4 main steam isolation valves closed along with feedwater isolation and start of the auxiliary feedwater pumps. All control rods fully inserted following the reactor trip. Following the main steam line isolation, the atmospheric relief valves opened along with the lifting of several main steam safety valves. "The unit is currently in Mode 3 and will be cooling down to Mode 4. Train A SSPS [Solid State Protection System] is currently out of service and suspected of causing the safety injection signal. With Train A SSPS inoperable and Train B SSPS not reset, TS 3.0.3 was entered and a shutdown required by TS 3.0.3 was commenced at 1345 hours. "This report is being made in accordance with 10CFR50.72(b )(2)(iv)(B), 50.72(b)(3)(iv)(A), 50.72(b)(2)(i) and 50.72(b)(2)(iv)(A)." The licensee exited the Unusual Event at 1249 EDT. unfortunately i'm under that big ugly 124 on the map, i am east of TMI and west of Limerick nuke plants and i sure hope they're in better running condition than many across the globe.

i do find it interesting how they can measure 18.00 micro sieverts an hour while reporting I-131, Cs134, Cs137, I132, and Te 132 non detectable, could it be all Pu 238, 239, 240, Sr 89, 90 perhaps?

The mayor of Futaba, one of the closest towns to the nuke plant, was refused medical treatment because it was radiation related. At that time he made the following statements.

“I asked Japanese prime minister Noda, if he thinks Futaba citizens are Japanese people, but Japanese government submit SPEEDI data to US and concealed it from Japanese people. Even now, SPEEDI data is not given to Futaba town.

If we have had that information, we would have escaped to Sendai. We were not even informed of venting. Tepco also explained they would stop, cool down, and close the reactor in case of an accident, so it’s absolutely safe, but Fukushima accident happened. We don’t even have a place to live.

Radiation took schools, hospitals, jobs, and everything from us and everything is collapsed.
I’m losing my hair and have nosebleed everyday. The other day, I asked for blood test at a hospital in Tokyo because I’m exposed but they refused it. We were even exposed and there is even no treatment, or proper inspection. Medical check up for Fukushima citizens are not detailed enough either.”

That's called adding insult to injury. But in a criminal extreme way.


Chapter 21
It's An Ill Wind That Blows No Good

There is a saying that activist investigators have used since the 60's. 'Hitting the wall.' It means literally going as far into an investigation or action as one can and getting so overloaded with negative data that the psyche can go no further.

Every environmental activist that has immersed themselves in a series of projects has had the experience. Some can't get over it and go a different direction in their lives. Some pull themselves together and continue on, only to hit the wall a couple more times through the years and then finally say 'that's it'.

And then there are idiots like me who just never know when to quit. I have hit the wall so many times in my activist career I thought I was numbed to the effect. I was wrong. Fukushima has slammed me into the wall harder than ever before. The only difference is that now I know how to push past it and keep going. But just barely.

It started with the worldwide MSM blackout of the true state of conditions at Dai-ichi, and the media's refusal to even ask the most rudimentary questions during press releases. Then things started disappearing from the web. This was followed by an international response to the ongoing catastrophe that was nothing short of mind boggling. From the White House and NRC's constant mantra of 'it's impossible for significant levels of radiation to reach North America from Japan' and the EPA pulling monitoring stations offline when they ran hot, to Canada's refusal to do any testing whatsoever, it was happening way too fast, the kind of response that you'd expect in a Hollywood conspiracy movie. Not real life.

The control exerted by the nuclear industry over the world's governments was far greater than anything I had ever seen. Forget BP's domination of the US government, this was way beyond that.

This is a simple fact. One of the greatest crimes in the history of the human race had been committed by the world's 5th largest energy producer, Tepco, when they willfully and knowingly exposed the entire human race to dangerous levels of radiation through their negligible actions committed with extreme arrogance, including refusing to acknowledge potential dangers from EQs and tsunamis, falsifying of data, and having no regard for social well being.

In a sane world criminals like that are immediately put behind bars and lightened of every penny they possess. In a corporate controlled world, they are given permission to take over and shut down the crime scene, take control of the flow of information, and hide incriminating data.

The criminals were further aided by the world's governments who manipulated monitoring process's, ie under reporting data, the shutting down of monitoring stations that ran hot, etc.

But that wasn't enough for the nukies. They had to extend control through the US, Japan and France to shut down the to speak. Incriminating evidence was being removed from the web at lightning speed. As soon as they became aware of a site that brought truth to the situation at hand, they started messing it up. If they could kill the link outright they would. Copyright infringement.....server issues, you name it. Breaking into personal problem.

But when they forced two of the world's most respected meteorological organizations to stop releasing plume dispersion data after the SPEEDI fiasco.......that's when I hit the wall. It's also when I knew that we were up against a worldwide conspiracy to cram nuclear power down our throats, no matter what, the future of the human race be damned.

And I hadn't even heard about the full extent of the SPEEDI fiasco yet.

NILU, Zardoz And The Lost Information

NILU. The Norwegian Institute for Air Research. One of the most advanced atmospheric institutions in the world, especially when dealing with atmospheric transport of pollutants. Used as an international air pollution expert by the World Bank and the World Health Organization. Well respected worldwide in the scientific and activist communities and hated by producers of pollution everywhere, (in this particular case that would be Tepco, INPO, WANO and the US and Japanese governments).

As soon as Fukushima Dai-ichi went critical and began to disperse airborne contaminants, NILU began analyzing atmospheric transport models from the northeast coast of Japan. It's their job. NILU is commissioned by the EU to co-ordinate the "Program for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe" (EMEP). They took the limited data that the Japanese government and Tepco were releasing, added to this available data from CTBTO monitoring stations and current meteorological forecasts, and from this produced simulations of where the Fukushima pollution event would head.

They were accused of being alarmists. In truth they were merely being scientists doing what they are paid to do. But the simulations they presented were alarming, and for a reason. The plumes from Dai-ichi headed straight for the westcoast of North America, beeline express with a couple of wobbles.

The problem came from how the simulations displayed data. Big colorful clouds that engulfed whole areas, giving radiation a visible signature that was sometimes frightening. This was due to scaling. For emissions in the Fukushima area they used the measurement of Bq/m3. Becquerels per meter cubed, your basic square box. Below is an example from March 18 2011.

The scale used above is 0 to 1000 Bq/m3. Theoretically you set the scale so the highest levels recorded are just below the highest point of measurement being used. The reason this type of scaling is used is to show clearly the different levels being emitted and where they are traveling. The same is done with thermal photography. You set the parameters according to the highest reading.

In the above, the scale is being over-topped, so the actual level is higher than 1000 Bq/m3. How much higher is impossible to say, that's why they try and keep the top end close to, but under, the highest point on the scale.

For long range transport, however, they used Bq/m2, becquerels per meter squared, which isn't a measurable space without the third parameter of depth unless the surface being measured is a flat area like a floor or road surface. The depth used by NILU for this forecasting was, if memory serves, 11 miles. At least that's what my notes say, (18 km horizontal grid m2) but I'm not totally sure as that sounds like an excessive distance. Unfortunately the site that I got this data from is no longer up and running and I probably should send an email to NILU, but it's a moot point at this time. Suffice it to say that the area measured was a meter by a meter by a long distance, which means that the highest levels would be considered insignificant exposure by government agencies when considering the scale being used.

At the same time, since the earliest simulations relied heavily on Tepco data for setting parameters, they are also exponentially under-valued. This can especially be seen in the first few simulations.

Below is one of the first that showed the plumes hitting L.A. head on, which is exactly what happened, and why L.A. registered the highest readings in the country at the time. The levels being recorded in L.A. however were significant, while the NILU simulations showed far lower levels of pollutants making their way across the ocean.

The forecasting model used in the above simulations was FLEXPART. The original FLEXPART model is a Lagrangian particle dispersion model developed at NILU by Andreas Stohl, considered one of the world's leaders in the field of mapping atmospheric transport of pollutants. The FLEXPART model is used by most of the world's meteorological organizations including the CTBTO, the Max-Planck Institute, ZAMG, China, the French Atomic Energy Authority, MIT, and NOAA. In other words, anyone doing serious modeling of atmospheric transport of contaminants. NOAA considers it a more detailed model than those they normally use and uses FLEXPART to cross check their modeling results. Other agencies that incorporate it into their tool chest include Environment Canada and the EPA. The EPA gives it the following evaluation;

"FLEXPART was originally designed for calculating the long‐range and mesoscale dispersion of air pollutants from point sources, such as after an accident in a nuclear power plant. In the meantime FLEXPART has evolved into a comprehensive tool for atmospheric transport modeling and analysis".

Now, if the EPA considers FLEXPART "a comprehensive tool for atmospheric transport modeling and analysis" with it's primary function being modeling of an accident similar to Dai-ichi, you'd think they would be tickled pink with the help NILU offered through it's simulations. Right.

Wrong. Instead of congratulating and thanking NILU for this information, our government jumped down their throats and accused them of scare mongering. Both the US and Japan complained that the amounts being presented in the FLEXPART simulations were insignificant and misrepresented the true situation, causing undo concern. And if one believes that there are thresholds to cancer effects from radioactive particles, and that Tepco was giving honest estimates of levels of emissions, then the amounts being presented were indeed small.

But the real issue here isn't the amount of radioactive particles one would be exposed to. The issue is tracking atmospheric transport of pollutants so people in positions of authority can make informed decisions. That's why NILU is in business and why they used the measuring system that was used.

And that's why the actions of the US and Japan are so outrageous and insulting. The human race didn't ask to be contaminated with anything. If we are going to be exposed, then we have a right to be given an honest estimation of what to expect. NILU was underestimating the situation, not being alarmist.

Yet a government that is considered to be a leader of the free world went out of their way to make sure that those affected would be kept in the dark. Anyone involved from the US that promoted the cover-up of this data needs to be arrested and charged with criminal negligence. Every single one of them needs to do serious time for their egregious crimes against humanity.

Purple Haze All In My Brain

The problems for NILU really began when they ran parameters that were set too low. That damn dark cloud of purple. It looked so ominous, so all penetrating. I must admit it scared the hell out of me at first as well.

This was one of the flash points I believe, from late April;

The scaling used is incredibly minute, 20 Bq/m2. But the image it presented did indeed cause a scare, until people were made aware of the scale being used.

That was just one simulation in thousands, yet it was good enough for the US to exert undo influence to finally pull NILU's Fukushima simulations from the net. On May 12th NILU not only stopped publishing the simulations, they shut down their entire Fukushima investigation. Literally ordered by someone not to do what they were paid to do, and what the people of Europe expected them to do.

Only they couldn't shut-up Andreas.

Return of Zardoz

Remember the movie "Zardoz" about a stone head that preached humans were evil and needed to be exterminated. After NILU was shut down, Andreas posted the simulations that were supposedly deleted from the NILU site, as well as continued forecasting, on a new site entitled Zardoz. These can still be found at

Now for the question mark. Why would a brainiac who is one of the world's leading atmospheric transport modelers use the title of Zardoz for a site showing the Fukushima contamination threat after the PTB had shut this data flow down.

That still bothers me.

To me he looks like someone who showed the world what little freedom it really had. Only this is a before picture when he still thought there was hope.

And heres the writing on the wall. They see that the human race is getting hip to the real dangers of nuclear power and may try and stop weapons production. This law ensures that nobody can stop ANYTHING THEY DO.

And now a vote for either Obama or Romney will ensure that the fascist US military eventually takes outright control of America and suspends Constitutional rights.

They are finally starting to talk about neutron embrittlement. From ENENEWS -safe

In June, [Banri Kaieda, the industry minister during the early stages of the Fukushima nuclear accident,] declared that nuclear power plants were safe and said he would approve the restarts of nuclear power plants, with the exception of the Hamaoka nuclear plant in Shizuoka Prefecture.

But [yesterday May 17, 2012] he told the Diet investigation panel that he did not believe all plants were problem-free, partly because reactors degenerate due to neutron radiation.

Except he forgot to say that everything is degenerating including the cladding of the fuel meaning everything will one day be totally unstable and there is no technology to deal with this.


Denki Shimbun: Tepco to search for holes in containment vessels — Trying to determine where radiation is coming from

The survey will be the first step in preparing for the decommissioning of the Fukushima I reactors. It will collect information required for locating and repairing leaks in the containment vessels.

Better they should find the holes in the heads that are allowing the last of their intelligence to leak out.
