Saw live video on abc feed.

Picture showed what clearly appeared to be a regional airport (loading ramps, control tower) completely innudated by flood waters.


But there were ABSOLUTELY NO PLANES TO BE SEEN!

Could they have all been swept away?

Gods have mercy.

I'm sure the planes have swept away. The Tsunami is taking whole houses!

At least those people were alive there waving the white cloth, you think there is a good chance the death tolls won't be too awfully bad? Looks like a lot of houses made it through the wave, another aftershock just hit I think.

Edit: I'm just reporting what they are saying on CNN, this one looks pretty #ing bad.

tsunami hasn't hit anywhere else yet either!

Hopefully it will dissipate, I wonder how south pacific islands like Okinawa and such fared? The news said the quake hit 130km offshore and still it did quite a bit of damage to mainland japan.

I feel sorry for all those people over there.
1 thing I don't get, Tsunami's are IMO a remnant of an earthquake, but in this case first an tsunami an after the tsunami an 8.9 earthquake.
Can anyone enlighten me about this?

Tsunami watch for Hawaii has just been upgraded to an actual Tsunami Warning.

KITV meteorologists said a tsunami watch was also in effect for the state of Hawaii.

If tsunami waves impact Hawaii, the estimated earliest arrival of the first tsunami wave would be 2:59 a.m. Friday, local time, according to emergency management officials in Hawaii.

Japan's NHK said a small tsunami hit the shore near the epicenter around 3 p.m local time.

Japan's meteorological agency warned that a tsunami as high as 20 feet could strike the coast near Miyagi prefecture, closest to the epicenter.

The agency said the quake struck at 2:46 p.m. Friday at a depth of 6 miles, about 80 miles off the eastern coast. Initially, scientists measured the quake at 7.9.

Take cover if you are in Hawaii, wake up your relatives and neighbors. They are still reporting that aftershocks are hitting.

Edit: The Australian Bureau of Meterology says there is no threat to Australia.
