1836: The power of the earthquake off north-east Japan shifted the earth's axis by nearly 10in (25cm), Earth-issues.com reports, citing the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The phenomenon is not unusual for a major quake.

Proof that it sometimes takes great chaos to bring people together. Maybe its just that all news is geared towards the quake, but while reading does anyone get the sense that the entire Earth just stopped arguing today?

after shocks with quakes that are normally major quakes 6.5, 7.5 etc. etc.

and these are AFTERSHOCKS!

Anyone else understanding this.... I thought after shocks were like 3.0, and 4.0 etc. etc. not additional 7.0 or San fran style tremors wow..

just heard on KGW TV in Oregon that Tokyo just got hit with another 6.0 quake/after shock..

anyone got the same thing ??

Can you please enlighten me with the facts of Chernobyl please? Because as far as I know, the reason for the potency is still not known, just theories on why it was so potent.

The truth is, every "meltdown" is unique, the potency can be predicted, but not 100% guaranteed.


Just saying.

EDIT: Just hearing another 6.6 AS has hit central Japan.

I know what you mean. I was walking through a uk city today at lunch time and they had updates on the large tv screen in the middle of the center and everyone actually took the time to watch silently. Was eerily weird as normally people walk past abruptly not taking any notice of anything.

Everyone felt this and i dont just mean physically..

UPDATE:- Possible problem with the nuclear power plant...radioactive vapour will be released to ease pressure in reactor 1. Could equal radiation leak at Fukushima Power station evacuating 3000 people in a nearby city.
