And as for the video... No, that wasnt happening all over japan. That sort of activity would be fairly local. He said it was reclaimed from the bay. It is man made land. The other poster that mentioned liquefaction is correct. Well, its either that or there were major water pipes in that area and busted and filled the cracks and as the masses moved back and forth it moved the water with it. Like when you stick the bottom of your fist below the water in the pool and shoot water at people by contracting your fist, forcing the water up. One or both of those scenarios could be true.

Aftershocks dampening rapidly or building up for yet another large stress release somepoint along the fault? Not one +6.0 magnitude quake for some 9 hours almost now since the 6.4 offshore Fukushima, which to me is slightly disconcerning.

I found you all when trying to find factual information about possible fallout coming to the us. reading this thread I realize theres not much more information here than anywhere else but ... you all seem like reasonable folks.

question:

potassium iodide pills - wikipedia says that they are to help prevent thyroid absorbtion (sp) of radioactive idodine and that they can NOT help any other form of radiation exposure.

With this current crisis will the pills help if the fallout exists and if it comes here? I usually don't worry about hype, but im genuinly worried about this and was planning on picking up a bunch of water and the pills on the way home from work today.

what do you all think?

as far as I have seen, there has been no info on the U.S. troops that were sent to help with the reactor since they arrived on site.

As I understand it, it is far better to have the potassium iodide in your system BEFORE exposure. After exposure, your body has already started to synthesize radioactive iodide....but i am no expert.

From what we've seen and are now seeing, I fear the worst for very many thousands of people.
The water was rushing so fast...easily 30 to 40 mph.
No way to outrun it on foot.
I fear that many people had nor or very little warning to the oncoming surge.
Be prepared for some big numbers when it comes to the loss of human life.
