Wow, well I do not have any news, I just wanted to pipe in real quick, and say It looks like Japan, has a new coastline, and it appears some dams broke..

It looks catastrophic.

Anyone have a bearing to where this nuclear reactor is and the floods?

Might wanna go study if you can, to see where it is, and if its effected by the massive H20.

It looks like dam's somehow or something has rivers flooding lands in NE japan.

source the NKL or NHL news in Japan.

I've been monitoring that data, too at USGS.

The range of depths in the swarm are fascinating.

Range is from 1.8 to 89.7km deep... that is in the mantle.

Plume? Subduction that deep? Or?

We are trying to contact relatives in Japan, but no contact yet...
edit on 11-3-2011 by Chakotay because: Got through. Our relatives are ok, but lots of people are not.

I don´t think they explode like nuclear bombs or do they?

Seems like the person doing Flutracker or whatever it's called has been smoking too much strong weed. Can't get my head around why they're tweeting that at all.

Nuclear reactors don't explode like nuclear bombs.

They will overheat and the reactor core goes into meltdown, over 2000 degrees, which they would either manage to contain or, err, not....

No, I did follow the link. I just think that due to the shear number of aftershocks they have an ongoing warning and they update the issuing time from time to time.

I thought I'd share this information I found about the Japanese reactor designs:

Japan imported its first commercial nuclear power reactor from the UK. Tokai-1 - a 160 MWe gas-cooled (Magnox) reactor built by GEC. It began operating in July 1966 and continued until March 1998. After this unit was completed, only light water reactors (LWRs) utilising enriched uranium Ð either boiling water reactors (BWRs) or pressurised water reactors (PWRs) have been constructed. In 1970, the first three such reactors were completed and began commercial operation. There followed a period in which Japanese utilities purchased designs from US vendors and built them with the co-operation of Japanese companies, who would then receive a licence to build similar plants in Japan. Companies such as Hitachi Co Ltd, Toshiba Co Ltd and Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Co Ltd developed the capacity to design and construct LWRs by themselves. By the end of the 1970s the Japanese industry had largely established its own domestic nuclear power production capacity and today it exports to other east Asian countries and is involved in the development of new reactor designs likely to be used in Europe.

2252: The Tokyo Electric Power Company has said the cooling systems of three reactors at second nuclear power plant, Fukushima-Daini, are malfunctioning, according to the Kyodo news agency. The plant is 11km (7 miles) to the south of Fukushima-Daiichi, where the cooling system one of its reactors is not working and pressure is rising.

Oh oh.....

According to CNN so far they are still working at the plant but the evac zone has been expanded to 10 KM and there are more reports of radiation leaking. But so far there has been no rupture or anything of that kind. Cross your fingers
