Gas Price Protest.. Again, March 11th & 14th

I recieved two different invites on facebook asking to partisipate in a "Gas Out" I remember this sort of protest going on a few years ago when gas prices peaked. They attempted to organize every one to not buy gas on a certain day to make a dent in the oil companies profits.
First i'm wondering would anything like this actually work, and secondly, would you participate in this boycott?

Don't pump gas on March 14 2011. .In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in
Protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.50 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
Network and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 11th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil company’s
Pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on March
11th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for
at least one day.

If you agree (which I can’t see why you wouldn’t) resend this to all your
contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on March 11"

I said I'd join the movement.

But than again, I don't have a car at anymore so yeah.

All that does is hurt the Franchise Owners who are local people just trying to earn a living. They only make a few pennies on a gallon of gas. They earn most of their income from impulse buys like snacks and drinks.

I remember that and how naive the people were who thought they were hurting the oil companies, when in fact they were harming innocent people.

Many Activists tend to be not to bright or knowledgeable. They just like to do things that put them in the spotlight, even if it harms the innocent.

Why would you want to hurt a local small business owner who did you no wrong? Just to be mean, or because you don't understand how gasoline is distributed through Franchises? The person you really hurt can be harmed very badly by loosing a single days income, while your real target is not harmed at all. Like I said, some Activists are not to bright and just want attention.

This doesn't really make sense - I can participate in a "gas out" day along with everyone else but just like everyone else I'll be getting gas the next day. How do you figure that puts a dent in the oil industry?

Not buying gas on any given day does absolutely nothing - the proper way to "make a dent" is to consume less gas therefore buy less gas.

How do you know there making pennies on gas ? I for one used to own a station back in 2001 and made almost 25cents per.
Where do you get your info ?
